Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980.  Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities.  All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications.  Asbestos can cause mesothelioma.  Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease.

We fight for veterans harmed by asbestos: Veterans with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer should know they have options: the opportunity to bring a suit against manufacturers and sellers of the asbestos that caused their illness. If you were harmed by asbestos exposure, for example, in ships or military housing, contact Weitz & Luxenberg to get a free case review.

What People Are Saying About Veterans Today

4/7/09: I work at the VA in Augusta, GA. I frequently share information from your site with my veterans (I'm an addiction counselor and a veteran). I give our your website to as many as I can and print copies of articles for those that do NOT have access. Thank You VeteransToday.com. Elizabeth Morrow//Charlie Norwood VA, Augusta, GA//706-733-0188 ext 6874

1/21/09: You guys rock! Thank you for posting our piece on Barack Obama and Vietnam Veterans! Michael Leon, http://malcontends.blogspot.com

1/08/09: Thank you for managing this web site. It is nice to know that veterans have a site to come to which is managed for them, and written by them, and managed by them. Leslie G.

1/07/09: On behalf of my colleagues at Pitney Bowes and the American Red Cross, thank you for all of your support in helping to spread the word about the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program. We would like you to know that we’ve not only reached the goal of delivering one million cards to US service members, veterans and military families, but we surpassed it! And it’s all because people like you and your blog readers who got involved. View the Video for more details and a personal message of thanks from all of us. We could not have done it without you. Christian Russo

11/26/08: A BIG THANKS for publishing Major Hanafin's great article. I can tell you that, thanks to Veterans Today, the news and dialogue on this issue is moving across America. It has opened the door and eyes to more and more responsible citizens who see this Veterans Park Conservancy group for what it really is -- a greedy, self-serving homeowners association irreverently operating under the deceitful guise of a "Veterans" organization. Nonetheless, the real damage is done by our elected servants who serve this group's "wants" instead of Veterans "needs." Thanks, Bob Rosebrock

10/31/08: Thank you so much for creating this amazing site for our armed forces and those of us who have served. I've spent a considerable amount of time on Veterans Today and have always enjoyed your insightful posts. You're a leader and influencer in our online military community. My name is Brian Delate, I'm a veteran of the Vietnam War. My experiences there were both memorable but also painfu, and it led me to experience the many symptoms of PTSD. Like the hundreds of thousands of veterans and soldiers with PTSD, I've spent the last 25 years on a journey of restoration and healing. Thank you for all your support. Brian Delate, www.restoreoursoldiers.com/blog

9/10/07: Very good web site, great work and thank you for your service. Bartholomew, Leocadia@99777.org

2/20/07: I was going over the notebook I kept in the Patrick Feges's quest for benefits. You were the first ray of hope I had, and I again I want you to know how happy you have made this family. Mary , my sister quit her night job, and can stay at home with her 4 other children. "Veterans Today" did this!!!! Please keep it up. I still go to sleep at night, thinking of the week I spent at Walter Reed, with my sister and nephew. It changed me forever!!! We must keep this fight up, to help all the vets. I've been keeping an eye on the Washington Post. The story's about the vets are finally coming out, but not on cable news. WHY? Is there anything we can do. I just cannot stop until we help those family's, not able to talk to you and Veterans Today!! Kathleen Creasbaum, dcreasbaum@sbcglobal.net

2/9/07: I wanted to write and thank you again and let you know that your efforts have paid off. We're not sure what or who exactly lit a fire under the VA, but after two years of inaction the VA has contacted Patrick, and he is to receive a cash settlement along with a monthly benefit to be paid starting one week from tomorrow! Patrick and his mother just can't believe it, and both are extremely grateful for your efforts. Yours is a fine organization and your web site is obviously read by many. We received emails from some high level people in Washington, and we know that they had read the article posted on your site. (Texas Purple Heart Veteran With No Benefits) Some mentioned it by name. Please keep up the excellent work you do on behalf of our veterans, and please accept the heart felt thanks of Patrick and his entire extended family. Sincerely, Kathleen Creasbaum, dcreasbaum@sbcglobal.net

11/03/06: I had written this poem VIETNAM VETERAN TRIBUTE back in 1984 and placed it on a parchment print. I have given away thousands of copies to brothers, sisters and family members who lost loved ones. Thank to VETERANS TODAY for posting it, now I can end it out to all! WELCOME HOME BROTHERS AND SISTERS. Louis J. Farragher 1964-1966, A PROUD VIETNAM VETERAN, morrow@frontiernet.net

10/11/06: Thank you Veterans Today. This guy was a great young man, Ranger and all, I will miss him. (Staff Sgt. Daniel Isshak falls In Iraq) - Respectfully, A. A. Hatkwa, U.S. Army

8/2/06: I want thank the public for their support and I love you all. ForgottenVets.com - MistreatedVets.com - John Evans childofgod7@rcn.com

Every once in a while, I get an email from a member that justs …….well, we have been trying to help a veteran working security in Iraq. They won’t give him a VA Loan because they say that his legal residence is in “Iraq”. The reason given is because he works for a private security firm protecting the contractors there. He is single with no wife and kids they wont’ recognize his legal residence back in the states. Anyway, his mother is helping him…..so we are working to get him an exemption from the VA – really, just doing our job. Anyway…..it’s a nice note and confirms to me that I think we are doing something……something good. Keep up the extra effort…..keep doing good. John P. Allen, General Manager, The Veterans Today Network

6/2/06: Who is the top boss that I can send an email to about how great you are...you are the kindest, most helpful person that I have ever dealt with, you make ME feel proud to be an American...no wonder my son had great things to say about you!!! God Bless You...and America too. Laurie, mother of Paul O.

4/8/06: I have enjoyed your web site and try to check it every day. You are a blessing to many disabled veterans. Orenda Herron

7/8/05: I read your brief article on the Battle of Bannockburn in Veterans Today. It gave me a warm feeling; to "return" to a place that I visited with a Scottish friend years ago. Feelings came flooding in and brought back a lot of good memories. Veterans Today is like a good friend. So much to see and so little time. Sincerely, Robert Schneider Allentown, PA 18104 Pebob123@aol.com

4/12/05: I'm very impressed by the pride you take in your site. I've become addicted to the site already, its become my Veteran 101 school....Your site is truly a Gold Mine...seriously!!! I certainly appreciate the wonderful assistance and the continuing benefits that the information on your website provides to those trying to help our veterans. We only know what the veterans, organizations and the news media tells us and your site gives everyone an upperhand in knowledge that you can't find anywhere else. Jeffrey SchoolCraft, Veterans Program Assistant, U.S. Dept. of Labor

4/8/05: This site rocks! Veterans Today.....shows a superb balance between the news we want and the compassion vets need! Corey Sutton, An Iraq vet
