If the United States is truly committed to its Constitution, Donald Trump should be tried in a military court, and summarily executed over his suggestion of profiling Muslims in the United States, an American scholar and political analyst says.

Dr. Kevin Barrett, a founding member of the Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Monday, after the presumptive US Republican presidential nominee called for racial profiling of American Muslims to combat terrorism.

“Donald Trump calling for profiling American Muslims and following the example of Israel is the latest in a series of bizarre and offensive statements coming from Mr. Trump that goes back throughout his whole campaign,” Dr. Barrett said.

“I hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start using common sense and we have to use, you know, we have to use our heads. … We really have to look at profiling. We have to look at is seriously,” Trump said.

Trump said France also places mosques under surveillance. “They’re doing it in France. In fact, in some instances, they’re closing down mosques.”

Civil rights activists and Muslims condemned Trump’s statement, saying that profiling is unconstitutional.

Dr. Barrett said “the first response that any sane American would have is that we have a Constitution that begins in the Bill of Rights, which is really the most important part of the American Constitution.”

“The First Amendment protects freedom of religion, and that protection is widely taken as essentially absolute, that is the government is barred from any form of preferential treatment of anyone based on their religion,” he added.

“So the government cannot even take a slightest step towards favoring one religion over another or no religion over religion, and so on and so forth,” he pointed out.

“So this proposal is blatantly unconstitutional, and essentially by putting it forward Trump is becoming a traitor to the United States of America, because the Constitution is the ultimate authority in the United States,” Dr. Barrett said.

“And advocating the overthrow of the United States Constitution is essentially treason, which technically would make Trump a traitor to the United States of America, meaning he ought to be arrested tried in a militarily court, and summarily executed if, of course, the United States is truly committed to its Constitution,” he stated.

“Unfortunately, the USA has lost its guiding vision that was handed down by its founding fathers, and now has become essentially a real parody of a country seeking ‘Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness’ – the phrase from the Declaration of Independence,” Dr. Barrett observed.
