KC Cattle Company
Great food for a great cause. That’s the driving premise behind KC Cattle Company, a veteran-owned and staffed ranch dedicated to producing the finest, USDA certified hormone-free American Wagyu beef, available for shipping to the lower 48 states.
Located just outside Kansas City in Weston Missouri, KC Cattle Company was founded in 2016 by Patrick Montgomery, a combat veteran. After completing his military service, Montgomery, only 28, earned his degree in animal science at the University of Missouri, established KC Cattle Company’s roots in Weston, MO, the epicenter of Kansas City’s farm-to-table movement. There, he started raising Wagyu cattle with the goal of providing exceptional beef to the same people he had served as a member of the 1st Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Today, his company employs and mentors veterans and donates to a number of veterans’ foundations, including War Horses for Veterans and the Sua Sponte Foundation, both 501(c)(3) non-profit that veterans.
Montgomery founded the company in honor of his brother-in-law, also a First Ranger Battalion member, who was killed in combat. He decided not to let the tragic loss become a crutch for inaction and destructive behavior, but rather serve as motivation to build a dream worthy of his memory.
Montgomery sources his cattle only from the best and most established Wagyu breeders in the U.S. Wagyu is a breed that originated in Japan (where the name means “black cow”). Wagyu cattle are known for having an extraordinary intramuscular fat. In premium steaks, this means optimum marbling and in turn, optimum flavor. This fat also has a lower melting point, and these attributes combine to deliver superior taste.
KC Cattle Company has an online butcher shop that offers a wide range of Wagyu cuts, from its best-selling strips, ribeyes, and filets to ground beef that takes burgers from simply satisfying to sublime. In addition to flank, hangar, flat iron, strip, ribeye and tenderloin steaks, beef lovers can choose from soup bones, kabob and stewmeat, roasts, ribs and brisket. Special packages such as the BBQ Sampler and the Family Beef Package make great holiday, Father’s Day or anytime gifts.
