Caviar is food that, for most, immediate thoughts of how expensive it can be. It is widely seen as a food reserved for the wealthy, yet that is no longer the case. While it isn’t what would be considered cheap food, it is not at all a luxury that is out of reach at all for most people.

Historically it was more expensive, as it is quite an extensive process extracting the eggs, but today most caviar is farmed from sturgeon at factory farms, allowing it to be an easier process and to help make the end product more affordable to more people. The fish themselves can live more than a century, and won’t start producing eggs until they are about 10 years old.

Caviar does have its benefits and is definitely something that everyone should enjoy much more. Let’s dive a little bit into a few reasons why you need more caviar in your life.

Rich In Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 acids are one of a small number of fatty acids the human body cannot produce on its own. Therefore, any of it that we get has to come by way of the food we eat. Lots of fish have Omegas-3, but caviar has it in much higher concentration; for instance, one single gram of caviar contains the full 24-hour daily recommended amount of Omega-3

Omega-3s have been shown to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart disease; and is also known as an aphrodisiac. In fact, many years ago, caviar used to be prescribed by doctors to help patients combat depression.

Sustainably Farm Raised

In the 1900s, high demand for caviar almost drove sturgeon, the fish which caviar comes from, to extinction. Seeing as the species has been around long enough to be considered prehistoric, that would have definitely been a tragedy.

Modern caviar producers raise their fish on a factory farm style setup. In some cases, they are even able to harvest the eggs without killing the fish and can get more than one batch from each ten-year-old fish. Making it a much more sustainable way to get the delicious food, while also ensuring that the species continues so that we can continue to enjoy it for years to come.

If For No Other Reason, Treat Yourself

Everyone should splurge on themselves sometimes, be it a new phone or video game you wanted, or a new experience like tasting caviar for the first time. It is commonly said that one has to take care of themselves before one can take care of others, and that statement rings true in every way.

So, if for no other reason than just to treat yourself to something you always saw as fancy or out of your reach, you should give a try to the food of emperors and Tsars alike since the earliest days of mankind harvesting food from sea life.

Give Caviar A Try, Or You’ll Never Know

Some people are afraid to try caviar because they fear it is extremely fishy tasting, which is actually quite far from the truth. So, if someone ever offers you the opportunity, give it a shot. It may not be your cup of tea, so to speak, but there’s no way for you to know unless you smear it on that cracker and give it a chomp. Worst case scenario; you get a taste you don’t like in your mouth. Best case scenario; you discover a delicacy and can’t wait to have some more. Again, you’ll never know unless you give it a shot.
