State leaders and community members in Georgia are fighting for the legalization of medical cannabis oil to help veterans with post traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. The Georgia College State of the State poll released recently showed that 77 percent of Georgians support medical marijuana legalization.
  2. Venice VFW makes donation to Goodwill’s Veterans Services Program. The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 8118, located in Venice, recently made a donation of $2,500 to Goodwill Manasota’s Veterans Services Program. The funds were raised through a golf tournament held at Lake Venice Country Club in the spring.

As part of its effort to expand private health care, the Department of Veterans Affairs is exploring the possibility of merging its health system with the Pentagon’s, a cost-saving measure that veterans groups say could threaten the viability of VA hospitals and clinics.
  4. Veterans Are Suffering Heart Failure Because of Meth. More and more U.S. military veterans are suffering heart failure because of meth, according to a new report from the American Heart Association. Earlier this week, the nation’s foremost authority on heart disease revealed the preliminary findings of a study that shows an increase in heart-related conditions, including those that can cause blood clots, stroke and heart failure, among veterans who use the drug.
  5. Join us for Arizona Storytellers Project: New Veterans’ Narratives 11/27. Our nation is home to 18.5 million living military veterans, 1.6 million of whom are women. This month, the Arizona Storytellers Project is honoring veterans by inviting them and their friends, family and community members to a special night of live storytelling from veterans of the most recent era of war.
