Discovery in Mexican Cave May Drastically Change the Known Timeline of Humans’ Arrival to the Americas
by Brian Handwerk/Smithsonianmag.com
Surprisingly old stone points found in a Mexican cave are the latest intriguing discovery among many to raise questions about when humans really arrived in the Americas.
For most of the 20th century archaeologists generally agreed that humans who had crossed the Beringia land bridge from Siberia to North America only ventured further into the continent only when retreating ice sheets opened a migration corridor, about 13,000 years ago. But a few decades ago, researchers began discovering sites across the Americas that were older, pushing back the first Americans’ arrival by a few thousand years. Now, the authors of a new study at Mexico’s Chiquihuite cave suggest that human history in the Americas may be twice that long. Put forth by Ciprian Ardelean, an archaeologist at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (Mexico), and his colleagues, the new paper suggests people were living in central Mexico at least 26,500 years ago.
Ardelean’s work was published in Nature and paired with another study that presented a broader look at 42 known early human sites across North America from the Bering Strait to Virginia. Data from those sites were used to model a much earlier peopling of the Americas, and help scientists reimagine….read more:

“Timeline of arrival of humans to the Americas may be as early as 26,500 years Ago.” I don’t know, Carol, according to a 2017 Gallop poll, 42% of Americans think the Earth was created less than 6000 years ago. To be more precise, at exactly 6 pm on the 22nd of October, 4004 BCE according to the venerable Bishop James Ussher.
My guess is that the majority of those folks are Trumpsters and won’t be talked out of those beliefs by any appeal to science, just like they believe that COVID-19 is a hoax perpetrated by Democrats. They run around without masks, hit the bars and beaches, and have celebratory COVID-19 parties to spread the virus around. Like I said, you can’t reason with these folks.
The model put forth, that 20,000 years ago we were slope headed furry cave men is not going to be around much longer in academia, because it doesn’t exist anywhere else.
The rate of evolution of a species doesn’t jive with the story put forth.
Complex building sites 40,000 years old can be visited every day. To say we didn’t get smart until the pope says so, is ridiculous to everyone alive, if they observe.
That fact that our human forebearers covered such vast distances in such difficult circumstances (by today’s standards) is a testament to the human will to survive by forming relationships, and by striking out for the unknown, either through necessity or curiosity.
Our migratory past certainly does attest to the notion that we all originated in the same place, notably Africa. It leads me to more questions about whether, for example, such diverse human genome expression could be brought about simply by exposure to epigenetic influence and environmental factors, e.g. fair skinned, blue eyed, blond hair humans surely were not to be seen at the dawning of human existence in the tropical or sub-tropical latitudes?
