There are men and women who are fighting for our country and our rights every day, and, like our veterans, they deserve our appreciation. However, with all of the different organizations and projects dedicated to military service members, it can be challenging to decide on which one to support.
Ways to Show Appreciation
Many organizations support those in service, and we can show our appreciation by supporting them. Below are a few we’ve outlined.
Wounded Warrior Project
A way to support our veterans is the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization offers rehabilitation, activities, and counseling for our Wounded Warriors and their families. It provides a great service for a great cause, and as citizens, we can support veterans and this project by hosting supporter events, giving monthly gifts, making donations in honor of loved ones and friends, and sending letters to Injured service members.
A Soldier’s Best Friend
Dogs also provide a service for our soldiers and veterans, from guide dogs offering safety and companionship to veterans to being present with soldiers on the front lines. As our own dogs are important to us, they are important to military service members. We can show our appreciation for those who have served and are currently serving by supporting programs that support military service dogs.
The USO
The USO stands for the United Service Organizations, and it is a non-profit organization intent on keeping military service members connected to their families, home, and country. They accept donations and provide many different services, one of which is the USO Operation Phone Home. The operation has centers in combat zones with its own private network, and it allows service members to make free calls home and access to free high-speed internet.
This service delivers $50 prepaid international calling cards to troops so they can connect with their loved ones.
Operation Write Home
There is a program called Operation Write Home, and a way you can show your appreciation for those who are serving is to donate. Many programs exist where citizens can send letters and notes to active-duty members. This gesture is widely appreciated, but there are many active-duty members who want to just write home to their families.
Operation Write Home sends blank, handmade greeting cards to active-duty members, along with letters from citizens. This gives the military personnel the opportunity to write home.
Create a Care Package
Care packages are more centered on those in the military who are still serving. These packages are a pleasant surprise for active-duty members, and they can provide them with things they both want and need. If you know a veteran, you can include them in building the care package; they have the best knowledge of what armed forces members might want to see.
You can also create care packages for veterans. It’s a great way to show your appreciation for their service.
Visit a Memorial Park
Veteran memorial parks are dedicated to the memory and service of veterans, and they are parks where their legacy can be recognized and honored. These memorial parks are a great way to both pay your respects to those who have served and also learn a bit more about history.
Thank You
The simplest way to show your appreciation for those who have served is to say, “Thank You.” It is a simple yet effective gesture to show appreciation. It’s the acknowledgment of a veteran’s service, and it can be enough to make their day.
Whether it be through your words or your actions, it’s important to show your appreciation for those who have served and who are currently serving. Additionally, there are ways you can show your patriotism.
