A Jewish writer admits: We Israelis live in the shadow of an apartheid regime

ronitIn an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, Ronit Matalon the Israeli writer said Israeli citizens live in the shadow of apartheid rule.

According to the Tel Aviv Times website, according to Israeli Haaretz news website, Matalon compared Israeli occupation to a dying patient and said: I think the main characteristic of Israeli society is denial. Everything is in the shadow of disinformation and propaganda. This society is the prisoner of its rhetoric in the field of security and victims.

In response to a question about the new wave of violence in the occupied territories he said: I always ask myself the question as to why recent events (Intifada) didn’t happen sooner. The Israeli state provides violence and insecurity by its actions.

The author also acknowledged: My biggest fear in life is the fear of expressing my ideas. We’re under pressure. What is happening in Israeli society is very terrible. There is no democracy here.
