Will Amal Clooney attack the Israeli elephant in the room?

Amal Clooney, George Clooney’s wife, is a human rights lawyer. She has recently delivered a speech at the United Nations during which she challenged the organization to recognize the magnitude and depravity of terrorist cells such as ISIS in the Middle East.

Clooney has also met with ISIS survivor and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Nadia Murad, who has told the UN: “I cannot understand why you are letting ISIS get away with it.”

Amal concurred to Murad’s point. Atrocities committed by ISIS, she said, is really bad and Western nations must do something about it. ISIS, Clooney added, should not “get away with genocide.” She declared:

“Ladies and gentlemen: what is shocking here is not just the brutality of ISIS but how long those who know about it can remain passive. If we do not change course, history will judge us, and there will be no excuse for our failure to act.

“We cannot say that ISIS’ crimes were not serious enough; we cannot say that the interests of powerful states stood in the way; or that these crimes are too hard to prove. That’s why I am asking you today: to stand up for justice.”[1]

So far, so good. But will Clooney address the real elephant in the room? Does she really believe that ISIS can exist without Western and Israeli support? Where do terrorist cells such as the Syrian rebels and indeed ISIS get their wonderful toys? Did they forge them in the Middle East? Do they really have the technology to make weapons in places like Syria?

Moreover, doesn’t Clooney know that Israel has been caught numerous times supporting ISIS? Doesn’t she know that Israeli officials such as Efraim Halevy have admitted that they have supported al-Nusra, a violent terrorist group? Doesn’t she know that no one wants to hold Israel responsible? Doesn’t she know that even the Trump administration doesn’t really want to criticize Israel?[2] Take it from the Times of Israel (August 2014):

“A Free Syrian Army commander, arrested last month by the Islamist militia Al-Nusra Front, told his captors he collaborated with Israel in return for medical and military support, in a video released this week.

“In a video uploaded to YouTube Monday … Sharif As-Safouri, the commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Al-Haramein Battalion, admitted to having entered Israel five times to meet with Israeli officers who later provided him with Soviet anti-tank weapons and light arms. Safouri was abducted by the al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front in the Quneitra area, near the Israeli border, on July 22.

“‘The [opposition] factions would receive support and send the injured in [to Israel] on condition that the Israeli fence area is secured. No person was allowed to come near the fence without prior coordination with Israel authorities,’ Safouri said in the video.

“In the edited confession video, in which Safouri seems physically unharmed, he says that at first he met with an Israeli officer named Ashraf at the border and was given an Israeli cellular phone. He later met with another officer named Younis and with the two men’s commander, Abu Daoud. In total, Safouri said he entered Israel five times for meetings that took place in Tiberias.”[3]

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported:

“The Syrian opposition is willing to give up claims to the Golan Heights in return for cash and Israeli military aid against President Bashar Assad, a top opposition official told Al Arab newspaper, according to a report in Al Alam.”[4]

Now, it is incontrovertible that the Israeli regime is supporting the so-called Syrian rebels.[5] It is also well-known that ISIS and al-Qaeda and the Syrian rebels are concentric circles.[6] Tamer Mouhieddine, spokesperson for the rebels, declared: “The rebels in Syria have one common enemy — Bashar Assad — and they will collaborate with any faction allowing them to topple his regime.”[7]

Will Clooney do a thorough investigation on this? Will she put the Deep State on trial for funding ISIS? Doesn’t she know that the Deep State has been involved in terrorist activities since the beginning of time? Doesn’t she know that the Deep State supported Saddam “as he gassed Iran”?[8]

If Amal Clooney is really serious, then she would approach these issues in a truthful and consistent manner, not as a clown who is trying to make a career out of a really bad situation. She would certainly find out where ISIS is getting their funding; she would locate the countries that are supporting the terrorist regime; and she would openly condemn those countries and ask the international court to put government officials in those countries on trial.

Will Amal do that? Will she ever get serious?
