Health Editor’s Note: You read a great deal about what is happening in Iraq and other places where war conditions persist. I would suggest taking a look at the war experience in Iraq through the eyes of a couple who, as National Guard recruits, arrived in Iraq a few short weeks after marrying. The book is Honeymoon in Baghdad and is written by Heidi Radkiewicz, an Army veteran, who relates the newly wed couple’s experiences in Iraq where they were in the same platoon. I would mention that this couple was lucky in that they were stationed together and had the unique ability to experience being in war situations with each other. They were even able to take leave together. The story begins with a brief introduction to our real life characters and progresses to basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina in October of 2000, Camp Anaconda,Iraq in June of 2003 and other locations in Iraq. This is a story about two people who were lucky enough to find each other and to go through some experiences that many of us will never be subjected to, and arrive out the other side….Carol
