Well Iran with an Air Force could stabilize the Mid-East.
The discussions are already taking place, contracts are probably being signed so that production capacity can be reserved for deliveries this year. It will be very interesting to see what they buy i.e. what they can’t make themselves.
I think they might order S/H S-300PMU for immediate delivery out of RuAF stocks as they are already trained on them and the price should be good. But only if the Iraqis don’t get to them first!
As to fighters, strategic Su-35 or tactical Mig29/35? Again they already operate earlier versions of the Mig-29 and they are much cheaper to operate.
R&D not R&R of course!
If you want to know how far back IRIAF can go to show it’s ability to wipe the floor with the schmucks in Israel, read Operation Scorch Sword 1980 and then read the declassified “Document Friday: When Iran Bombed Iraq’s Nuclear Reactor”.
Yes Iran. And then they handed their blueprints to Israel to go clean up as in wipe the floor.
Iran has some of the best pilots around.
Of course. Creating effective air defense is not a cheap pleasure. It should be layered, multi-stage and harmonious, together with good aviation. Otherwise, the technologically advanced aggressor will strangle like kittens. I think that Iran will eventually create its own air defense system. Historically, my country has positioned itself as a defender. Therefore, we have managed at the moment to create the most effective air defense, which we can be proud of. The strategic depths also help us a lot – the vast spaces of the largest country in the world. But, as our proverb says: to live with wolves – howl like a wolf.
You can not relax even for a minute. S-500 is coming.
First S-500 test systems into the RuAF next year with production units in 2025 is the latest plan. Note Russians, unlike the US MIC don’t believe in overlapping R&R with manufacturing. Get it working to spec, then make it.
The S-500 system will probably consist of very long range radars, optimised to look up as well as a long way away, with bigger than normal missile canisters to hold the larger longer range missiles. It is unlikely to operate on its own so a regiment of S-500 missiles and their radars etc will work with an S-400 battery a bit like the new S-350 can be attached to them to provide short range defence from particularly cruise missile attacks. Expect the S-500/S-400 combo batteries to be near major cities, navy ports, major airfields and strategic asset locations whilst the navalised version will find its way onto any ship large enough to take it.
