Day is ended, dim my eyes,
but journey long before me lies.
Farewell, friends! I hear the call.
The ship’s beside the stony wall.
Foam is white and waves are grey;
beyond the sunset leads my way.
Foam is salt, the wind is free;
I hear the rising of the Sea.

Farewell, friends! The sails are set,
the wind is east, the moorings fret.
Shadows long before me lie,
beneath the ever-bending sky,
but islands lie behind the Sun
that I shall raise ere all is done;
lands there are to west of West,
where night is quiet and sleep is rest.

Guided by the Lonely Star,
beyond the utmost harbour-bar,
I’ll find the heavens fair and free,
and beaches of the Starlit Sea.
Ship, my ship! I seek the West,
and fields and mountains ever blest.
Farewell to Middle-earth at last.
I see the Star above my mast!

Holm, who started his acting career back in the fifties, starred in dozens of prominent films, including the Lord of the Rings series, Alien, The Fifth Element, Naked Lunch, and many others.



 

Sir Ian Holm has died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, his family announced on Friday.

“He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer… Charming, kind, and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely”, the statement read.

The actor, who starred on TV, in movies, and theatre for decades, playing in countless classic productions, films, and TV shows, was known for his iconic role of Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings.

  1. I always watch British productions , for hereditary favoritism. Lord of the Rings, a stellar production and Holm, a likely distant relative, a great actor, while noteworthy, do end up part of a product. I study the product, and often British products have a very strong positive influence on the idea of heredity, as the primary pathway to power for human beings.
    My grandfather Holmes, served under Jack Pershing. The Hobbit is a brilliant production, and Tolkien a great writer with expansive imagination, but somehow ended up back at the same product , that is hard to reconcile for my position. Game of Thrones, the same. The reasons we left.

  2. He will be missed for a long time. Will likely watch the Hobbit & Lord Of Rings Series also in a binge watch. Be in peace.

  3. Good man and good actor. I don’t like fantasy and never watched Lord of the Rings, but i remember his role in the Fifth Element.

    • The end result, the product, of the fifth element,… a woman born of a certain blood, was capable and { alone} of saving the entire world. A hereditary bloodlust of perpetuity incentive to maintain eugenics. Associated with the four elements of the few ancestors who preceded them with wisdom and time and left behind structures. The elders return. They do not lie.
      The Fifth Element , Good movie, Bad incentive. Proven to not work.

    • Andy, All of the Tolkien, Lord of the Rings books are excellent reads, starting with the Hobbit.
