The US has threatened to re-evaluate its membership of the UN Human Rights Council, after it adopted five ‘biased’ anti-Israeli resolutions condemning its policies and calling on the world community to halt arms sales to Tel Aviv.

Following a month-long 37th session in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) approved five ‘anti-Israel’ resolutions. One of the resolutions, titled ‘Ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem’, condemned “all violations of human rights and of international humanitarian law” against Palestinians.

Acknowledging the “widespread and unprecedented levels of destruction, death and human suffering” in the occupied territories, the UNHRC urged member states to stop selling arms to Tel Aviv.

The resolution specifically “calls upon all States to promote compliance with international law” to ensure that “authorities and private entities do not become involved in internationally unlawful conduct, inter alia the provision of arms to end users” which engage in “serious violations of international humanitarian and/or human rights law.”

The US, which signed the biggest military agreement with Israel in September 2016, on Friday tried to protect its assets, worth $38 billion over 10 years. The agreement, which goes into effect in 2019, represents a 20 percent increase from the previous US aid deal of $3.1 billion annually. Slamming UNHRC’s anti-Israeli stance, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley threatened that the US may quit the 47-member UN body.

“The United States continues to evaluate our membership in the Human Rights Council. Our patience is not unlimited,” Haley declared on Friday. “Today’s actions make clear that the organization lacks the credibility needed to be a true advocate for human rights.”

Haley also slammed the non-binding message contained in the other resolutions presented by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Council, under ‘Agenda Item 7’, which only covers Israel. Other country-specific resolutions of the day adopted by the Rights Council focused on Syria, South Sudan, Myanmar, Iran and North Korea.

Four other Israel-related decisions which the UNHRC passed on Friday included a resolution which calls on Tel Aviv to withdraw from the Golan Heights, while another sought Palestinian self-determination along the 1967 borders. The fourth resolution condemned Israeli settlements, while the final document slammed Tel Aviv for human rights abuses against the Palestinians.

All of the resolutions denounced the policies which Washington has been increasingly neglecting, and tacitly supporting, under the Donald Trump administration. Haley has called the council’s actions “foolish” and “grossly biased” against Israel.

“When the Human Rights Council treats Israel worse than North Korea, Iran, and Syria, it is the Council itself that is foolish and unworthy of its name,” Haley said in the statement. “It is time for the countries who know better to demand changes. Many countries agree that the Council’s agenda is grossly biased against Israel, but too few are willing to fight it.”

This is not the first time that the US envoy defended Israel’s position at the UN. In December, Haley noted that the UN remains a “hostile place for the State of Israel” wondering why “Israel would choose to remain in the UN given that body’s clear antipathy towards the Jewish state.”

She has also defended Trump’s December 6 decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and criticized the failure of the previous administration to veto December 2016’s Security Council Resolution 2334, condemning Israeli settlements.

  1. In a game of Scrabble you could get a few points for finding HARRIDAN in her name. HARRIDAN as in “HAG … CRONE … OGRESS … DRAGON … VIRAGO … TERMAGANT. I could stretch it by suggesting only someone like that could curry favor or stroke both horns of the Devil … deflect from the BDS outcry by beating the drum for BDSM.

  2. Who remembers when It looked like the possibility of israel getting booted out of FIFA over its apartheid policies over the Palestinians, and suddenly the US comes to israels aid, getting some of the board members arrested 2 days before the vote. An FBI stooge stated that ‘we have been investigating the board for 25 years,DUH, I hope that agent is enjoying the field office in Alaska. FBI = Federal Bureau of israel.
World Cup soccer is in the headlines again, with Britain not sending anyone in an official capacity to the games, comparing Putin to Hitlers 1936 Olympics??!!!

    • Ed, I don’t think it’s over yet ether, the TPTB have still some plans up their sleeves to try to embarrass Russia, the nerve agent attack in Britain is falling apart.
Ha, I had lunch with a golfing friend yesterday and I raised my glass to congratulate Putin of winning his election, my friend just stuck his head low.

  3. Part 1
The UN should pass a Resolution against tyrannical tirades of members pressing utterly insane and preposterous arguments. It is bad enough that the truth is impossible to find in the sea of lies, deception and skullduggery but where truth does burst forth we have to hear a wailing banshee like Haley spew vomit from the ninth circle of Hell to excoriate it. If you wish to present Israeli facts in a true light then at least learn to be a diplomat instead of a dipshit – the inevitable ‘sine qua non’ of those espousing against all logic, Israeli policy towards Palestine. A true diplomat couldn’t but hold Israel in contempt. Bolton’s appointment represents yet another slap in the face to the memory of the 3,000 Americans annihilated on 9/11 recalling PNAC and the dogs of war that policy unleashed.

    • Part 2
Thomas Jefferson once referred to liberty being a tree. Something about the need for it to be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Liberty a tree? On that premise, Trump is a stool, as in, living stump of a tree that produces spindly sprouts – under AIPAC gardeners who apply frequent and copious amounts of cattle dung to the stool and sprouts to satisfy both their cravings. Yes, all done far from the madding crowd, amid the choking weeds of wild undergrowth unseen by the human eye. But, like Haley’s rancid rantings we know it is there, because – by all that is holy, the rot stinks to high heaven.

  4. Well it looks good on paper. We’ll see. Maybe the UN will expel Israel. it certainly has cause. After all, the world is an anti-Semitic place. Not really. Just anti vampire.
Can Nikki Halley actually believe what she is saying?
