[ Editor’s Note: Iran has drawn a line in the sand. It will not negotiate with a “reneger”, which is a quite reasonable stance. If the tables were turned, that might very well be Trump’s position, “No way, Jose !”

Interviews are fun as they are generally spontaneous. You never know what they are going to ask, and they are interviewing you to add more depth to the story, not repeat what the headlines were.

At the end, I came up with something new, out of the blue. Zarif’s position was “why deal with someone no longer a member of the deal”. I decided to take that a step further to make sure Trump knows he is out.

The remaining countries in the JCPOA can just renew the old deal on the same terms. That would allow the other participants to refresh the deal with a new date and formalize the US being out.

This could even cover Britain also bailing out or any of the others by not renewing, leaving Iran, China and Russia, and one of two of the Europeans. Iran does not lose anything, and any others that dropped out would have no say on Iran’s nuclear activities.

As it stands now, Britain, France and Germany are not in compliance themselves, but hold that Iran must be compliant. There is something a bit odd about even calling that an agreement.

And who knows, maybe that will leave just Russia, Iran and China, and they could form their own nuclear union and tell everyone else to take a hike.
