Intercept: Coal Giant Funding Attacks on Climate Science

Robert Murray, the man behind the war on the climate

IN 2018, a new group appeared seemingly out of nowhere and immediately took aim at the recent wave of lawsuits filed by state attorneys general designed to hold major fossil fuel companies responsible for allegedly misleading investors and customers about the true risk of carbon pollution.

“The global warming lobby has gone too far this time,” declared the innocuously named group, Government Accountability and Oversight, in a video posted on its website. GAO claimed that the lawsuits, which target Exxon Mobil, Shell Oil, and Chevron, among other corporations, represent a form of government overreach and that prosecutors are colluding with activist interest groups in an unethical manner.

GAO, which is run as a for-profit company and foundation, does not disclose its donors nor does it provide much information about its origins. But on Saturday, a bankruptcy court in southern Ohio released a filing revealing that the organization received three donations totaling $300,000 from Murray Energy, the largest privately held coal-mining company in the United States. The first payment was made on June 7, 2018, just one month after GAO announced its intention to “expose” the litigation effort against energy companies.

That a secretive group working to defend the fossil fuel industry is financed by Murray Energy may come as no surprise.

  1. And this is newsworthy because…? The Climate alarmists are about to shut down his industry after all. Just in case you didn’t know, UN decided to further the climate agenda so that they could institute a global tax on nations based on their CO2 emissions (because nations’ contributions are too unreliable) solely to benefit UN, our friendly Global Government. That is why dissenters are not tolerated, and coal industry and hydrocarbons generally are demonised. There is a petition of 30,000 PhD signatories who disagree with Climate Alarmism, but it remains firmly in the shadows. Now why might that be..?

  2. The diversion of pollution control, an absolute necessity for humankind, into a psychological operation against carbon dioxide is the greatest triumph of the Eugenisists lobby in my personal opinion.
Thanks to Gordon for teaching me to look at source materials rather than sources.
    Aloha!

  3. Bob Murray probably never gets out his chair or his couch to know what the weather looks like, let alone being able to get close to the ice fields or glaciers to know where they are at right now. He suffers from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a scarring of the lung tissue leading to shortness of breath.
These types of criminals who are menaces to the society should be taken away but instead Trump elevates them to “entrepreneurship”, making a mockery out of his US unregulated cowboy capitalism, calling it America first.

What do these people have in common with the poor, unemployed, uneducated Trump supporters who back these people up is beyond me.
