Sentencing Finnegan Lee Elder and Gabriel Natale Hjorth to life imprisonment with daytime solitary confinement for the murder of Mario Cerciello Rega. This is the request of the deputy prosecutor of Rome Maria Sabina Calabretta at the end of the indictment in the trial that sees the two Americans accused for the murder of the deputy brigadier, killed with eleven stab wounds on July 26, 2019 in Rome. Also present in the courtroom is the deputy prosecutor Nunzia D’Elia who coordinated the investigation. Both defendants attended the hearing before the Assize Court.
“Serious are the facts and grave is the injustice that was committed against a good man, who was working. We must separate the proven facts from those that are not, the truth from the doubts. My task is to prove that Cerciello is dead. only at the hands of two assassins: it must not happen to kill him again “. Thus the deputy prosecutor Maria Sabina Calabretta during the indictment in the trial.
Cerciello was killed “by two young people who wanted to spend the evening and for this they had looked for cocaine. For him, torn from his loved ones forever, all the things we have rebuilt must speak – underlined the prosecutor. Mario is a man who he helped his young colleagues, who always lent a hand “.

“It was an aggression, a violent, deadly, disproportionate attack. Little could have done to defend himself even if he had been armed, but he was not. The purpose of that action was solely to kill,” he continued.
“Cerciello did not have time to develop any active defense. He was killed with eleven stab wounds in less than thirty seconds. There is no sign of an attack by Cerciello or an attempted strangulation”, underlined the prosecutor. “The passage behind the two carabinieri by stealth is not reasonable – highlighted the prosecutor – And Varriale was unable to intervene” to help Cerciello “as he was absorbed by the fight with Christmas”.
