VT Bangladesh: Hypocrisy

 VT Bangladesh.
In the name the Most beneficent and the Most merciful God ( Allah).
Now a days hypocrisy seems to be an  open practice worldwide without feeling any shame. This in turn is creating mistrust among people in every country  and also making international relations and international  agreements untrustworthy, like JCPOA and the past Geneva agreements in regards to Palestine and Rohingyas of Myanmar.
In a situation like this I strongly feel that it is very important to recognise the symptoms of this disease and Isolate the “patients” or “rogue persons” as early as possible and treat them accordingly, what they deserve.
Hypocrisy was first noticed in Satan, when he refused to accept the greatness of Adam for his extensive knowledge of the unseen world. Years later, it showed up in one of the two sons of Adam, whose hypocrisy in faith led him to envy his own brother, who he subsequently killed, out of greed for the position of leadership on the earth after Adam ( pubh).
God’s messenger Moses ( peace be upon him) suffered emotionally a lot  at the hands of the hypocrites among his Jewish followers, and the Holy Quran describes them vividly and elaborately.
Most of the descendants of Israel, did not believe God’s Messenger Jesus ( pubh) due to their hypocrisy, even after seeing hundreds of miracles from him. It is said in the Shia books of Islam, Jesus made more than 300 dead people alive with the permission of Allah, to prove his truthfulness and divinity, and there were many other miracles performed  by him which have been mentioned in the Holy Quran, but the hypocrites were unmoved and continued on their own logic.
So, hypocrisy is as old as Adam’s time and can be seen in followers of all religions, including atheists. So much so, that it is now a state craft of several countries, who are creating havoc in international  relations, inventing enemies when there is none, just to make money by selling expensive weapons, and raising tentions in peaceful societies.
Late Imam Ruhullah Musavi al-Khomeini of Iran describes Hypocrisy very well in these words:
“Double-facedness ( hypocrisy) is the characteristic of the person who assumes an outward appearance and simulates a behavior which is contrary to his inner state. For instance, one may give an impression of friendship and affection and pretend to be sincere and sympathetic, while in his heart he harbors an opposite feeling. Such a person displays sympathy and friendship in front of people, but is different in their absence.
Double-tonguedness is the quality of the person who praises and flatters people whenever he meets them, appearing to befriend them, but denounces them and speaks slanderously of them in their absence. Therefore, in the light of this description, the first quality may be specified as ‘behavioral hypocrisy’ and the second as ‘verbal hypocrisy’.”
(Exposition of forty traditions, 9th tradition)
We begin with a few verses from the Holy Quran that speak about hypocrisy:
” O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? it is most hateful to Allah that you should say that which you do not do.” (61:12-13)
“surely the hypocrites are in the lowest stage of the fire and you shall not find a helper for them.” (4:145)
“And when you see them( the hypocrites), their persons will please you, and If they speak, you will listen to their speech; (they are) as if they were big pieces of wood clad with garments; they think every cry to be against them. They are the enemy, therefore beware of them; may Allah destroy them, whence are they turned back?” (63:4)
“And when it is said to them, do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers. Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive.” (2:11-12)
“The hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are as one another; they enjoin evil and forbid good, and they keep their hands shut. They have forsaken Allah, so He has forsaken them, (too). The hypocrites are indeed the transgressors.”
“Allah has promised the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women and the infidels, the Fire of Hell, to abide in it forever. That is enough for them, Allah has cursed them, and for them is a lasting chastisement.”
“(O’ hypocrites! You are) like those who were before you, they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children; so they enjoyed their portion; thus do you enjoy your portion as those before you did enjoy their portion; and you indulge in vain discourses as they indulged. These are those whose works are null in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the losers.” (9:67-69)
The great prophet Mohammad ( peace be upon him and his infallible family), discussed the subject of Hypocrisy adequately 1450 years ago. I found them so accurate, straightforward and so relevant tody  that I can not but share with the honorable friends of VT. Let’s go through some:
1. Prophet Mohammad (pubh&f) used to say:
“A hypocrite is someone, who when he makes a promise he does not fulfil it, when he does something [good], he shows off, when he speaks he lies, when he is entrusted with something he betrays, when he is given sustenance he is heedless, and when he is deprived he resorts to tricks.’ (Bihar al-Anwar, v. 72, p. 207, no. 8)
Now, see if  these symptoms are visible in politicians and religious leaders of your country. Do not be surprised if you find them in your friends , relatives and family members and even in yourself.
2. He (pubh&f) also said:
“When humbleness of the body supercedes that which is in the heart, then in our view it is hypocrisy.” (al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 396, no. 6)
3. He (pubh&f) also said:
“He whose inner is contrary to his outer is a hypocrite, no matter who he may be.” (Bihar al-Anwar, v. 72, p. 207, no. 8)
4. He (pubh&f) also said:
“A hypocrite has control over his eyes, he cries whenever he wants to.” (Kanz al-Ummal, no. 854)
5. Prophet Mohammad (pubh&f) also said:
“Hypocrisy appears as a black dot [on the heart]. Whenever hypocrisy increases in magnitude that black dot increases, and when hypocrisy becomes complete the heart becomes black.”(Kanz al-Ummal, no. 17.)
6. The Prophet (pubh&f) also said:
“A two-faced person in this world will come on the Day of Resurrection with two faces of fire.” (al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib, v. 3, p. 603)
7. The Prophet (pubh&f) said:
“He [the hypocrite] will come on the Day of Judgment with two faces and with his tongue hanging out from the back of his head, and with another tongue hanging in front. They will both be ignited with fire until they ignite his body, then it will be said about him: This is the one who was two-faced and two-tongued in the world, and he will be known as such on the Day of Resurrection.” (al-Khisal, p. 38, no. 16)
Let me quote some more from a great book named ‘Gurar Al-Hikam wa Durar Al-Kalim’:
The first Shia Imam Ali ibne Abi Talib (pubh) said:
1.”Hypocrisy is the brother of polytheism.”(H:6205)
2. “The hypocrisy of a person [stems] from the inferiority he finds within himself.”(H:6207)
3. “How hideous (looking) is the human being whose outer is agreeable, while his inner is hypocritical.” (H: 9559)
4. “The most obvious of hypocrites is he who enjoins acts of obedience but does not perform them himself, and prohibits wrongdoing but does not refrain from them himself.” (H: 3214)
Finally,
The Holy Quran says:
“Except those who repent and amend and hold fast to Allah and are sincere in their religion to Allah, these are with the believers, and Allah will grant the believers a mighty reward.” (5:146)
 The Prophet (pubh) said:
“Raise your voices in invocation of blessings on me, for it takes away hypocrisy.” (al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 493, no. 13)
The words above should be enough for the those who have hearts longing  for the Merciful God.

  1. In an article headed “Je ws are the true Muslims” in issue 78 from The Scribe 2005, Mr. Naim Dangoor (his grandfather Hakham Ezra Reuben Dangoor was the Chief Rabbi of Baghdad) states –

‘The word Islam is derived not from ‘Salam’, meaning peace (as some people think), but from the verb ‘Haslama’ meaning ‘submitted’ (to the will of Allah).”

    On the balashon website-
“The word (haslama) derives from sulam סולם – Hebrew for ladder… a hapax legomenon – it appears only once in the Tanach, in Bereshit 28:12 – in Yaakov’s famous dream.
,… is unique in the Bible; its etymology is uncertain. It may derive from the stem s-l-l, “to cast up a mound,” or may be connected with Akkadian simmiltu, “steps.” Sullam could therefore be a ladder or a stairway ramp.”

“In Masonry are what is known as the “three symbolical steps.” “The three grand steps symbolically lead from this life to the source of all knowledge.” (Encyclopedia of Freemasonry)
On the Masonic tracing board of 1776 there is a ladder with three steps, a significant revision of the usual ladder in such references (seven steps).
Other kinds of ladders: the Brahmanical Ladder (seven steps), the Kadosh Ladder (seven steps), Rosicrucian Ladder (seven steps), Jacob’s Ladder (various numbers attributed), the Kabbalistic Ladder (ten steps).” King-Kill/ 33: James Shelby Downard.
