Lawrence O’Donnell: “Their Silence Proves Republicans Fear Jan. 6 Committee”
from MSNBC, The Last Word
[ Editor’s Note: The doo doo has hit the fan inside the Jan 6 Committee, compliments in large degree to Mark Meadows having previously turned in his text messages before he did a 180 turn on his cooperation.
Liz Cheney read out some of the texts without naming which Republicans had sent them, but a leak revealed which one was Jim Jordan’s. Life will be different for him for some time now. Here are some of the Jan6 Committee sample emails to Meadows:
…”Yesterday was a terrible day. We tried everything we could in our objection to the 6 states. I’m sorry nothing worked.”
Jim Jordan … “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.” Jordan did not reveal that the above was text for two days after it was leaked by the media as his text
“The president needs to stop this ASAP.” … anonymous Congressman.
The Republican texting senders are hiding out, but the suspect list is well known. And as O’Donnell says, “The proof of their fear is their silence.” Then he dropped an unrelated bomb on Jordan, tying him into a college wrestling sexual abuse scandal.
“Jim Jordan was silent about under oath accusations by the Ohio State wrestling team saying that when Jim Jordan was an assistant coach of that team he knew about sex crimes committed by the team doctor against members of the team.
And Jim Jordan said and did nothing about that. Members of that team testified under oath that when Jim Jordan found out that kids on the team he was coaching were being sexually abused by the team’s doctor, Jim Jordan choose silence.” Every day that Jim Jordan is silent he knows he is in deep trouble.
The Washington Post weighed in with an interview with Joyce Vance and Lawrence Tribe, one of Harvard’s famous professors who by the way had students like Obama, Ted Cruz, Chief Justice John Roberts, Elena Kagan, and Jamie Raskin, and even Merrick Garland. Tribe said:
“If we are to maintain our democracy and respect for the rule of law, efforts to overturn a fair election simply cannot be tolerated, and Trump’s conduct must be investigated…One possible charge is conspiracy. It is a federal crime for individuals to agree to defraud the United States by interfering with governmental functions.”
The Financial Times weighed in on the controversy via Edward Luce in an article titled The US system is no match for Donald Trump writing, “History tells us that democracies that fail to protect themselves with the full force of the law are flirting with extinction.”
And then we had Washington State’s governor Jay Inslee with, “The American psyche has not recognized we were one vice-president away from a coup.”

Not one Republican member of Congress who texted Mark Meadows on January 6 has voluntarily revealed themselves to be authors of texts conspiring to overturn the election.
Lawrence O’Donnell says the proof of their fear of being revealed by the House Select Committee Investigating the January 6th Attack on the Capitol is their silence.

These legal experts have been opining and spinning their wheels for nigh on a year. “I need 11,780 votes…”. A first year law student could prosecute that, for Christ’s sake!

I have friends on both sides (of politics). Unfortunately reality has no sides. Incidentally when you observe a side it is actually a man made illusion. Nature has no “sides”.
Attention required.
Amen, We are fighting people all over the world, and looking, apparently, to add more to the list, while also fighting each other tooth and nail. And I have to add to that my immense disappointment how useless the veterans orgs have been on their standdown to do anything about it, and frankly for a pitiful reason, an attitude which I will describe ad “not their cup of tea”. In a better world the vet orgs would be screaming for the Judge Advocate General to bring courtmarhall charges to the hapless Colonel Waldron, but there is not a peep, and I don’t expect one. If I told you how much of the military supports Trump you would not believe it.
