Lindsey Graham boosts home state female judge for Supreme Court

[ Editor’s Note: This Judge Michelle Childs boost came out of the blue, as Lindsey seemed to have been keeping his head down among all the Trump scandals in progress, where he seems to have been smart enough to give a wide berth to.

The only snag I see is her experience, having been a District Court judge specializing in worker’s compensation is a thin resume for the Supreme Court. The irony is that Biden has already nominated her for an Appeals Court slot where she would get a much broader background.

The Trumper goons have already shown their colors with their snide affirmative action barb, that we did not need “an affirmative action pick at this time,” which made them look more stupid, if such a thing were possible. There has been a steady trend to build the Supreme Court’s image as the people’s court by having it look more representative of a diverse America.

We can certainly see how women’s rights need to be better supported, due to the surge of the Banana Republicans’ womb tyranny jihad they are on, a pitiful ploy to hold the Christian evangelicals in thrall to Trumpism.

If Biden thought she was ready for the Appeals Court, he just might bump her up. But I suspect that he will read the public tea leaves reaction and consult his team closely, as these slots are important decisions… Jim W. Dean ]

In an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Graham (R-S.C.) — a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee — appeared to endorse J. Michelle Childs, a U.S. District Court judge in his home state of South Carolina, for the seat held by the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

“Put me in the camp of making sure the court and other institutions look like America,” Graham said. “You know, we make a real effort as Republicans to recruit women and people of color to make the party look more like America.

…“President Reagan said, running for office, that he wanted to put the first female on the court,” Graham said. “Whether you like it or not, Joe Biden said, ‘I’m going to pick an African American woman to serve on the Supreme Court.’ I believe there are plenty of qualified African American women, conservative and liberal, that could go onto the court.”

…“In the history of our country,” Graham continued, “we’ve only had five women serve and two African American men. So let’s make the court more like America. But qualifications have to be the biggest consideration, and as to Michelle Childs, I think she’s qualified by every measure.”

…“She’s highly qualified, she’s of good character, and we’ll see how she does if she’s nominated. But I cannot say anything bad about Michelle Childs. She is an awesome person.”
