President Donald Trump said the United States would retain influence in Syria in order to protect Israel, even as U.S. troops are withdrawn.

“We’re going to be there and we’re going to be staying– We have to protect Israel,” Trump told Margaret Brennan on CBS’s “Face The Nation” on Sunday when asked about a timetable for the withdrawal of 2,000 troops. “We have to protect other things that we have. But we’re- yeah, they’ll be coming back in a matter of time.”

He said that his administration has “done an incredibly job” with Syria. “When I took over Syria it was infested with ISIS. It was all over the place. And now you have very little ISIS and you have the caliphate almost knocked out. … When I took it over it was a disaster. I think we’ve done a great job with that,” he said.



Trump suggested the continued U.S. presence in Iraq would be a bulwark against Iran’s influence in the region.

“I want to be able to watch Iran. All I want to do is be able to watch,” he said. “We have an unbelievable and expensive military base built in Iraq. It’s perfectly situated for looking at all over different parts of the troubled Middle East rather than pulling up. And this is what a lot of people don’t understand. We’re going to keep watching and we’re going to keep seeing and if there’s trouble, if somebody is looking to do nuclear weapons or other things, we’re going to know it before they do,” he said.

He called Iran “a vicious country that kills many people.”

  3. We’re leaving, we’re leaving…except we’re not. Sending in 600 more troops and tons of weapons..to cover the withdrawal of 2,000…or not. I keep hearing this 2,000 number and somehow it just doen’t jibe with estimates of the last 2/3 years, not to mention the numerous bases we’ve set up. What numbers would Gordon put on our actual troop strength there? What a political and military CF, the chaos ploy. The only ones that got it right is the Russians, they don’t see the US leaving at all…just more bluster and obfuscation to keep the status quo. Of course, should Bibi change his mind…

Trump lied with his Father about refusing to rent to blacks. Trump lied about saving priceless artifacts at the former building replaced by his tower. Trump lied about paying former low end Polish workers and much much more. First he tried to bribe Barrett, then he threatened him.     Believe nothing that Trump says, let his actions speak for him because they are all one can believe. He lives for his friends in Israel who treat Palestinians like garbage every day.
