…from The Last Word, with MSNBC
[ Editor’s Note: What a difference two weeks can make. We are beginning to see Republican hypocrisy on steroids with their beginning to back off condemnation of the Trump coup as a bridge too far, with the threat of having the organized Trumper machine challenge them in 2022 primaries.
The state Republican parties broke the dam on this turnaround when they began censuring those that had chosen to certify the election. With this act they have chosen party over country, and will forever wear the stain.
Frum takes it further, predicting that this move will kill the Republican party as it has historically been known, replaced by a monster that seems to be emerging. Even Speaker McConnell is backing off after reading the tea leaves of possibly losing his minority leadership position.
Meanwhile Trump is just sitting back watching all of this, surprised I am sure, because a constant storm of tweets have not been the driving engine, but just letting the post coup Republicans steep in their own juice for a couple of weeks. After all, THEY were not being targeted in the coup, only their Democratic colleagues.
McConnell gave up the ghost today by flatly stating that an impeachment conviction is not a legal determination, but a political one. He waves the white flag. But there is a silver lining here as the unsaid was, which I heard loudly, that the courts will be the venue to deal will the legal aspects of sedition and treason.
We may sink or swim not so much on what Biden does, but his DoJ. I wish I could say I had a warm and fuzzy feeling about that, but I would be lying. So we should refocus our attention on the courts, and whether a Biden Department of Justice will have the balls to dig out the Capitol coup plot down to the last malefactor, including tracking the funding, which will turn up the usual suspects who have done coups before.
The powerful entities behind Trump (Read Gordon’s Intel Drop today) are going to face off with Biden with all the power that they have to see who will blink first. I wish I could say I was confident as to what Biden will do against a full spectrum attack, including whether he has dependable resources under his command. Yes, that is what I said.
He needs to watch his back, because those he is going after will not gamble on a full frontal attack but a feint, and then attack from the rear, as they have a long history of being successful that way… Jim W. Dean ]

The future of the Republican Party is left hanging in the balance after the Trump presidency. David Frum, author of “Trumpocalypse,” says Republicans have to stop thinking they can control Trump and instead get rid of him.
“Trying to get Trump to behave is like teaching Charles Manson to do the fox trot. Maybe he can do a step or two, and then he’ll put a fork in your eye because he’s Charles Manson. Trump is going to do what Trump is going to do.”
