The now-former mayor of Colorado City, Texas, Tim Boyd, has resigned after two Facebook posts telling people needing help and without electricity that they are on their own.

“No one owes you are your family anything; nor is it the local government’s responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim it’s your choice!” Boyd said in the now-deleted post, which was riddled with grammatical errors.

Unusually cold weather conditions in the state of Texas have left millions without power and over 20 people dead.

For those without electricity, Boyd encouraged them to “step up and come up with a game plan to keep your family warm and safe.”

No water? The mayor told his constituents to “deal without and think outside the box.”

“If you are sitting at home in the cold because you have no power and are sitting there waiting for someone to come rescue you because your lazy is a direct result of your raising,” he wrote.

Boyd said only the “strong will survive” the storm, the “weak will perish,” by which he apparently meant “perish.”

The now-former mayor of Colorado City, Texas, Tim Boyd, has resigned after two Facebook posts telling people needing help and without electricity that they are on their own.

The mayor resigned from his position on Tuesday and made another post backing off on his earlier statements, saying he would “never want to hurt the elderly or anyone that is in true need of help to be left to fend for themselves.”

Boyd said his statement was directed at those folks that are too lazy to get up and “fend for themselves.” Those people, according to Boyd, do not deserve a “handout.”

He also revealed his family had received “undeserved anger and harassment” following the post and even claimed his wife was laid off based on her association with him.

“I admit, there are things that are said all the time that I don’t agree with, but I would never harass you or your family to the point that they would lose their livelihood such as a form of income,” Boyd wrote.

With more than four million homes and businesses without power in some of the worst weather Texas has seen in decades, Boyd’s statements haven’t found all that much support on social media.

  1. Too bad this comes as a surprise to Texans. They should have known that their infrastructure is shit and has been headed that way ever since the Repugs took over. Texas is full of people that believe their own BS. Why should the rest of their gov be any different? They vote every time for a tough-talking, bible thumping, flag waving, simplistic mindset…which invariably means a dictatorial, racist, incompetent ‘public servant’. As for his wife, quit bitching and tell her to go out and get another job, hell…the economy is great there, ain’t it? That’s the message he’d give them. People freezing and he cries his wife lost her job. TFB.

  2. Texas is a failed state. It’s run by ReTrumplicans who are not into actually making government work, just inyo bringing everything down. Their Christian Zionist end-times nihilism is only about preparing for the upcoming Apocalypse which will be the end of the USA as we know it and the beginning of their world theocracy. As Texan Pastor John Hagee said, “50 million Bible-reading Christians who all stand with Israel” also voted for Trump. He is their ticket to the Rapture, so of course he “won” the 2020 election.

  3. Elvin, the current psychosis of white christian nationalism is inseparable from religion. The churches have completely failed to ever unify any people anywhere without killing half of them.
Here it is, doing it again.
A tortured man nailed to a post is not a symbol for Love peace and hope. It is insanity.
All four gospels are based on the trecenas and days and decans, just like the rest of it.
It is past time to put this simple knowledge in our schools. None of the bible characters are real.

  4. The largest corrupt socialist program in Texass is tax free churches.
I support Texas secession. Let them be on their own.

  5. Well he did spell the word … socialism correctly. Republicans melt at the thought of the govt providing any common good whatsoever, you want drivable roads, police to stop randomly killing black people, that makes you a ‘socialist’.
Covid relief package – bailouts for airlines, the Republicans have no problem with that because they are victims of China but give states any money and it’s a bailout for failed, badly managed, blue states that have to pay for failed socialist experiment. Never mind that those states, unlike the airlines, actually provide healthcare services for their residents and are also hit with revenue shortfalls because of Covid, for some reason they are not victims of China; only businesses deserve any kind of bailout.

This is exhibit A for why I am a nihilistic ex-Republican: the mindless use of the word ‘socialism’.

  6. So why the power outages? Because we have a D+ for our infrastructure? Because in advanced countries, which we’re not one of, all the power lines are underground.

    • Exactly. They will provide a slightly better infrastructure and I said slightly better (since we’re talking about Texas let’s sound like Foghorn Leghorn) but at a much higher I say much higher cost with the ensuing monopoly.
