Editor’s Note: One of the most brutal wars in current history has finally gotten to the ceasefire stage led by the UN’s endless efforts. Hopefully, both sides will fall in love with the peace and proceed with a permanent agreement to stop this tragic war that was a child killer.
The first question that comes to mind, is ‘Why Now’? My first guess is that the Saudis woke up and smelled the roses, especially when their Formula Racing event experienced the rain of Yemeni missiles striking the nearby oil storage tanks for a highly visible and memorable event.
Did Yemen threaten to do this to all international events if the war was not stopped? No one is expecting a confession now, as the next big step out of the war swamp would be the photo of the smiling faces at the peace treaty signing.
There is one thing to worry about though, those parties that would want to see the carnage continue, like the arms shippers and Israel, could organize missile attacks as false flags.
Maybe the economic destabilization from NATO’s war on Ukraine, something it worked long and hard to do, might turn the world against the organization that claims to be a collective security organization. But when you look at its record, you find a well-funded and heartless offensive organization that has left a trail of blood and destruction in its path.
Europe thought it was slick to snooker the US into funding most of its defensive needs for many decades now. It turned into a ‘forever war’ booster itself, also on the cheap. But why has it gone on for so long?
That’s easy…the respective publics in the various countries were just too lazy to stop it. Since the Vietnam Vets Against the War days, there has been no real opposition to the ‘let’s start a war and make some money crowd’, which includes the war industry vipers and old vets who love wars they don’t have to fight in and where their grandkids are drone operators.
As Gordon says, “Nobody gets to beat somebody to death with a camp shovel or have cluster munitions rain down on them”. Cross your fingers that the world might be growing up a bit here… Jim W. Dean

UN announced a breakthrough ceasefire in Yemen that will see ports and airports opened

Yemen’s warring parties have agreed to a two-month ceasefire that will allow fuel ships to enter Houthi-held al-Hudaydah port and select flights from Sanaa International Airport, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Gruenberg, announced on April 1.
In a statement, Gruenberg said that the nationwide ceasefire, which will go into effect on April 2, could be renewed with the consent of the parties.
“The parties accepted to halt all offensive military air, ground and maritime operations inside Yemen and across its borders; they also agreed for fuel ships to enter into Hudaydah ports and commercial flights to operate in and out of Sana’a airport to predetermined destinations in the region; they further agreed to meet under my auspices to open roads in Taiz and other governorates in Yemen.
The Truce can be renewed beyond the two-month period with the consent of the parties,” the envoy said in the statement.
Gruenberg noted that the breakthrough ceasefire would not have been possible without international and regional support. The envoy also promised to work during the next two months to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement.
“This Truce is a first and long overdue step. All Yemeni women, men and children that have suffered immensely through over seven years of war expect nothing less than an end to this war. The parties must deliver nothing less,” Gruenberg said.
The UN-brokered ceasefire was welcomed by both the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Houthis (Ansar Allah).
Foreign Minister in the Saudi-backed government, Ahmed Bin Mubarak, will be facilitating arrangements for the release of prisoners, opening Sanaa International Airport and allowing fuel vessels to dock at al-Hudaydah port.
“In the implementation of that directive, we immediately announce the release of the first two fuel ships through al-Hudaydah port,” the minister said on Twitter.
Houthi chief negotiator Mohammed Abdulsalam welcomed the ceasefire. Another senior Houthi official, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, called for caution.
“The ceasefire announced by the [UN] envoy will be credible with implementation … And our Yemeni people should be careful,” al-Houthi said in a tweet.
Both the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis announced short ceasefires a few days before the UN announcement. The two sides also exchanged peace initiatives.
The UN-brokered ceasefire in Yemen is unprecedented in both its scale and conditions, which fulfill the demands of all warring parties. The ceasefire could become a turning point in the Yemeni peace process, if the UN manages to build trust between all parties, especially between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition.

The most notable change in the last week or so is the willingness of Saudi Arabia to sell oil to China for Petroyuan. That will be the end of dollar hegemony, folks. WWIII, coming right up…
The increased range on those Yemenis’ homemade rockets and drones was the only real reason the Saudis agreed to stop their unjust, drawn out, onslaught on Yemenis people. With the Aramco being the main source of revenue for the sheikhdom getting constantly battered by Houthis what was next could be the barrage of suicide drones and missiles coming down on their palaces and that was the turning point. Kudos and congrats to the brave Houthi warriors.
Yes that terrorist trash bone saw “prince” (lol) doesn’t give a hoot about stopping the slaughter of Houthis or anyone for that matter unless his miserable “highnass” is schooled that at $140 per barrel crude détente is not just a nice sounding French word.
