Host Johnny Punish hosts VT’s NFL Expert and Self-Proclaimed Sports Dinosaur Mark Dankof in an irreverent discussion about the Romanesque Gladiator Game Spectacle that has become the Super Bowl; a true Panem & Circus diversion for U.S. Citizens and even international fans around the world. So forget about the pain in Ukraine or the Earthquake in Turkey, it’s time for your bread and entertainment brought to you by billionaire owners and their millionaire gladiators.
Dankoff pulls out all the stops going deep in the NFL lore especially discussing his beloved Redskins from the 60s and even pulling out a reference an obscure reference to the epic June 14, 1934, Boxing Championship Fight between Max Baer and Primo Carnera.
Mark Dankof was the former 36th District Chairman of the Republican Party in King County/Seattle. He was an elected delegate to Texas State Republican Conventions in 1994 and 1996 and entered the United States Senate race in Delaware in 2000 as the nominated candidate of the Constitution Party against Democratic candidate Thomas Carper and Republican incumbent William Roth.
Mark is the host of The Dankof Report for the Republic Broadcasting Network and the London version of The Dankof Report heard on the first Tuesday of each month for ACH and broadcast by RBN, Rense Radio, Free Speech Radio, and EuroFolkRadio.
“Bread and circuses” (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metonymic phrase referring to superficial appeasement. It is attributed to Juvenal, a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century CE, and is used commonly in cultural, particularly political, contexts.
In a political context, the phrase means to generate public approval, not by excellence in public service or public policy, but by diversion, distraction, or by satisfying the most immediate or base requirements of a populace, by offering a palliative: for example food (bread) or entertainment (circuses).
Juvenal originally used it to decry the “selfishness” of common people and their neglect of wider concerns. The phrase implies a population’s erosion or ignorance of civic duty as a priority.
So who will be Spartacus on Super Bowl Sunday? Whose’s cashing in? And how dumbed down is the public?
On cue, Dankof throws down his predictions for the big Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs and VT will never be the same.
