The Occupied Palestinian territories —According to Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine (Hamas) seeks to remove Khaled Masha’al as its politburo chief in due course.

Inner-party schism between senior members following the Hamas leadership’s unsuccessful strategies concerning reconciliation talks with the Palestinian Authority and its political officials remaining obdurate in their irrational belief of interfering in Syrian crisis — which stems from a populist and canny tactic to garner the support of wealthy Arab states of the Persian Gulf–, all have stirred strong disapproval among the majority of Hamas members who have firm belief in armed struggle against Israeli.

Extrapolating from the recent events, it is likely that Hamas members will reach a consensus and demote Mr. Masha’al which shall entail a wide-ranging shift in Hamas’ regional policies particularly vis-à-vis Tehran and guarantee the latter’s renewal of support.

Meanwhile, Israeli army launches a suspicious military drill near the Gaza Strip amid increasing speculations over the past days. Observers believe that Israel’s perennial threat against Gaza and the sky-rocketing popularity and strength of other Palestinian factions —who remain loyal to the Palestinian cause, e.g. Islamic Jihad—made Hamas leaders to maintain the unity and forestall the imminent collapse. To remedy the situation, it is imperative that certain controversial figure be unseated.
