Pull out of Syria? Bare all to IAEA? Why 12-point US list for Tehran is ‘ultimatum’ meant to fail

… from Russia Today, Moscow

Captain Pompeo, once upon a time

[ Editor’s Note: Jim Fetzer and I were chosen to do the post-Pompeo speech coverage on Press TV this morning. I was struggling to remain calm, as Pompeo went on and on with his orgy list of demands that no nation on the planet would ever accept, and hence the theme of my main title.

If there were any doubters left on the stage as to the Trump-NeoCon, Israeli-Saudi plan hatched during Jared Kushner’s one-man trips to both places to coordinate it all, they had the proof today.

Captain Pompeo, (yes that was his rank when he left the military), trashed the US as a reliable partner in any international security deal. He should have been wearing a cheerleading outfit with an “Unipolar-R-US” logo.

I kept waiting for him to say one truthful comment, and I don’t think he ever did. It was an often used sociopathic ploy of accusing your victims of everything you are actually doing to them.

Americans should flood the White House and Congressional phones with their outrage and embarrassment. The EU will be watching closely for our reaction to gauge how far they can go themselves.

The public often forgets the role it can play by voicing objection to crazy foreign policy actions. The world needs to stand up to the American bullies, starting with those of us at home taking the lead. “Not in our name” should be the battle cry.

You know what to do. Voicing your objection is affordable and does not take much time. Keep the calls short with a few bullets, pardon the expression. Now is the time. This thing could spin out of control, which it seems the Deep State wants … Jim W. Dean ]

Trump is using the old WWII “impossible demands” trick as punishment for Iran helping Syria

– First published … May 21, 2018

Note: I will be posting the Press TV footage as soon as I have it.

The US has laid out 12 demands for Iran that it says Tehran must meet for a new nuclear deal. Problem is, telling Iranian troops out of Syria and dictating what nuclear watchdog inspects doesn’t sound like a real roadmap for peace

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the White House’s stance crystal clear Monday, calling the nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers a “loser.” President Donald Trump has already pulled the US out of the landmark deal earlier this month. A new deal should be drawn up, Pompeo asserted, while laying out 12 “basic requirements.”

Many of those were predictable, such as requiring Tehran to “stop enrichment of uranium and never preprocess plutonium” – because obviously, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is not good enough to hold Iran to its word.

One major point used as a bargaining chip is, however, entirely unrelated to the Iranian nuclear program. It reads: “Iran must withdraw all forces under Iranian command from Syria.”

The demand conveniently ignores the fact that Iranian troops were invited by the Syrian government and have been helping fight Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) on the ground – while the US troops, stuck in Syria indefinitely, were not.

“Nobody invited them there,” Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said in February, reminding the world that their presence was illegal. It’s not hard to guess which forces the Syrian government wants to keep and which it wants to be gone, as it battles the remaining pockets of Islamist militants.

Another US demand is that Iran must “respect the sovereignty of the Iraq government and permit the disarming, demobilization, and reintegration of Shia militias.”

Just as in Syria, Iranian troops are in Iraq with the approval of Baghdad, and the country’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) even receive funding and training from Iran and  have been declared part of Iraq’s security apparatus. So why would Iranian troops suddenly need to disband and leave?

Then there’s the fact that the US seems to believe it’s perfectly fine to try to establish a new deal which abides by 12 demands designed by Washington – despite Washington being the sole party to withdraw from the original deal. The other signatories – the UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia – are still committed to the 2015 JCPOA.

Although the IAEA, tasked with inspecting Iran’s compliance under the deal, has repeatedly stated that Tehran is implementing its commitments, the US apparently distrusts international watchdog’s expertise. That’s according to the list of demands saying how the Iranian nuclear program should be inspected.

“First, Iran must declare to the IAEA a full account of the prior military dimensions of its nuclear program, and permanently and verifiably abandon such work in perpetuity.

Second, Iran must stop enrichment and never pursue plutonium reprocessing. This includes closing its heavy water reactor.

Third, Iran must also provide the IAEA with unqualified access to all sites throughout the entire country,”boomed Pompeo, speaking Monday at the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing Washington think tank.

One may almost forget the IAEA is not a lapdog of Washington, but an international body. Why the US now gets to decide the scope and methods of its work is unclear.

Of course, there is also a whole array of demands to scale back Iranian military programs and alleged support of militant groups. US accuses Iran of sponsoring terrorism, including by helping the Palestinian group Hamas and even, allegedly, Taliban and Al-Qaeda. That these groups are overwhelmingly Sunni while the Iranian government in Shia is overlooked, by accident or deliberately.

The mentioned “threatening behavior against its neighbors,” the “firing of missiles” and “destructive cyberattacks” strangely mirror Washington’s own actions in the region, including some that have been aimed against Iran.

Crucially, there’s little doubt that the Trump administration understands Iran would outright reject most, if not all, of the listed demands, which brings the purpose of the entire list into question.

“Secretary Pompeo’s speech has not demonstrated how walking away from the JCPOA has made or will make the region safer from the threat of nuclear proliferation, or how it puts us in a better position to influence Iran’s conduct in areas outside the scope of JCPOA.

There is no alternative to the JCPOA,” EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said Monday commenting on Pompeo’s list. Others said the US list was outright destined to fail – on purpose.

“I think ultimatum is the right word… When you deliver an ultimatum, its purpose is to have it rejected,” former US diplomat Jim Jatras told RT. “There are people in the Trump administration, who want the regime change in Iran – it’s that simple, and they want Iran to reject their terms.”

Jatras believes it’s too early to tell at this stage if US threats against Iran are merely “noise” and pressure tactics like the one used against North Korea, but he says even that pressure could backfire and serve as a positive effect for Tehran by“forcing the Europeans to pull even farther away from the US than they have.” The worst case scenario, he says, is Washington proceeding with a unilateral military action aimed at regime change.

“As you can imagine, Iran will not agree to any of Washington’s demands,” Hamed Mousavi, professor of political science at the University of Tehran, told RT.

“It is Iran that should be asking the US why it has not fulfilled its side of the agreement when Iran has fully complied with its obligations under the nuclear deal. Why should Iran negotiate with an administration that is not abiding by an international agreement that is the result of years of intense diplomacy?”

  1. Here is likely what happened with Israel lover liar traitor Pompao and West Point: He very likely graduated, if indeed he graduated at all from West Point in mechanical engineering, LOWEST in his class not highest. They made a mistake and like the “fog of war” got mixed up and falsely reported his scores but don’t want to correct the record because of obvious embarrassment. It is similar to the lie in history books that General George S. Patton, considered the greatest U.S. General in WWII by the German Generals, the only opinions that matter, was killed in an innocent car accident in 1945 instead of being murdered under orders of the terrorist criminal General Donovan who ran the OSS, predecessor of the CIA, who paid a U.S. Military hit man $10,000 in 1945 to plan and murder General Patton with criminals Ike and others in on it too. You see Ike was violating the law and mistreating German POW’s among other crimes. Patton was planning to return home and blow the whistle on him. Ike is just another fake hero of our fake failed country now for 200+ years, going straight down the tubes like Rome. It is only a matter of time. Pompeo is another lie like Trump and 9/11 and all the rest and the uncorrected lies in history books. Our government is nothing but pathological liars and cheaters today and always has been. Shame on us.

  2. Quote: “Pompeo enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, graduating first in his class with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1986. He followed with five years of active duty in the U.S. Army, serving as a cavalry officer in East Germany and rising to the rank of captain.

Accepted to Harvard Law School, Pompeo became editor of the Harvard Law Review and earned his J.D. in 1994.” It is not surprising that Pompeo is a lying lawyer from Harvard. However we need a national investigation of why and how this Israel lover hypocrite piece of garbage graduated first in his class in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point! Evidently the cesspool West Point has no standards at all today. The U.S. already unilaterally reneged on the deal so Iran has no duty to do anything at all. They should ignore all these outrageous demands of the little dictators from Israel who run the outlaw U.S. today. Israel is the terrorist criminal country which has illegal nukes, refuses international inspections, refuses the non proliferation treaty operates an open air concentration camp for Palestinians every day and gives the world its middle finger every day and even did 9/11 to the U.S. with the aid of traitors Bush, Cheney and the four star generals but blamed it on Muslims. Israel lover liar lawyer con artist Pompeo doesn’t even know the meaning of the word hypocrite. He is one.

    • In order to save the world from WWIII, which Israel lover liar con artist draft dodger gangster Trump prays for to his Israeli God every day, with that silly cap on, the rest of the world must join hands and boycott Israel and the U.S. and stop doing any business in the dollar. This will bring these two terrorist criminals to their knees. Do not buy or sell anything to these two criminal terrorist outlaw pariah regimes. This is the only kind of language these two lying cheating con artist countries might understand. This is an emergency because these insane lunatics running Israel and the U.S. seek to destroy the planet. Do something you other countries. Boycott them today until they break. America is bankrupt morally and fiscally right now. It is only a matter of time until the financial collapse comes without any warning and destroy it. Boycott both of these terrorist outlaws today.

  3. It appears that Pompeo & Bolton compete with Haley, who can generate silliest statement?
Bolton recommended/ ordered N.K. to go the way of Lybia in their de-nuke effort (which
they have NOT even considered)? Does he think that the N.K. (and S.K.) forgot what have
happened to Gaddafi, after he cancelled completely Lybia’s nuke program? Bolton believes
that Lybia (dropping to the bottom of African countries) is now a “prosperous democracy”?
And now Pompeo with his embarrassing orders toward Iran? Would N.K. really wanted even
to start talking with the US ? Sad days for the US “diplomacy”.

  4. All of this, just to please Netanyahu and hardline Zionists. USG subservience to Israel is so blatantly obvious, it’s beyond embarrassing. US has no right to demand Iran leave Syria or Iraq. That’s up to Syria and Iraq. The thing is, Bibi fears Iranian forces operating so closely to Israel’s illegally occupied territory in the Golan Heights. Bibi and his Zionist agents working in America hated the Iran nuclear deal from the very start. Meanwhile, it’s Israel that operates the illegal nuclear facility without any inspections whatsoever. Not to mention their hundreds of nuclear weapons. But Israel believes the law doesn’t apply to them and their control over the USG ensures they’re never held accountable for anything. Sounds to me like Israel is terrified by the idea that anyone in the region could challenge their hegemony and their puppets in the USG are working overtime to ensure Israel gets what it wants, while further tarnishing America’s already terrible reputation every step of the way.
