Donald Trump Wants Space Army: What Does it Mean?

Earlier this year President Donald Trump ordered the Defense Department to effectively create a Space Army as a separate branch of the U.S. Military and called it “Space Force”. He directed the Pentagon to create the first new military service in over seven decades. It will be the sixth branch of the military.

Now that Donald Trump has decided on a space army, it does bring into the forefront some exciting questions.

For one, what would the responsibilities of the Space Army be? Since space isn’t owned by any one particular country, wouldn’t this act be considered an act of invasion by other countries? Additionally, what can the space army accomplish and what budget would it get?

Knowing what the Space Army Can Do

Space is a war domain and Trump has based his argument for this venture due to high possible attacks from Russia and China. It is clear that these two countries have acquired new technology which the Pentagon has failed to acquire.

These make it a risk for the US as the race for hypersonic missiles is ever increasing with the world superpowers. Experts have assessed that space might be a war domain in the future.

For instance, if there was any war between USA and Russia then they both would like to take the commanding heights of each other from space. We all remember the race to the moon how it went down.

It’s a War to Retain Control Over the Satellites

However, although the wars will be termed for space, they would actually take place on earth. The two sides would try and destroy each other’s navigation satellites in space.

Satellites are well known for relaying internet, radio and television communication. In the US, satellites power navigation and military equipment. Thus if ever the US satellites ever got destroyed then it would fall on its knees in the hands of its enemies.

However, the US has a plan to avoid adversaries ever attacking their satellites. They hope to streamline the launch of satellites by installing small constellations.

For instance, the US government have uncovered a secret space program by Russia which could shut down the US satellites. They claimed the program was showcasing abnormal technology which they have never seen.

The program is known as Kosmos 2499 dubbed kamikaze can shut down all American communications. If this is proven to be true then the next war would involve the USA cyber warriors and Russia’s cyber experts.

Both of these parties would try and jam communication of the rival’s space and earth. They would interfere and take control of the rivals satellites.

However, the US government, in particular, the Congress and the Airforce are against the idea. They believe it is absurd and the only thing it would do is add on unnecessary additional costs.

The Air Force and Navy are already doing the prescribed job of what Trump wants in the Space Army. The US Air Force supports all space explorations. So, it might not be worthwhile in the long run.
