Raw Story: Disgraced former president Donald Trump reportedly stunned aides early in the coronavirus pandemic by suggesting that infected Americans be sent to Guantánamo Bay and other facilities, some as far away as Ethiopia or even secret prison ships.

The former president brought up the topic at least twice, according to “Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration’s Response to the Pandemic That Changed History,” a new book by Washington Post journalists Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta.



“Don’t we have an island that we own?” Trump reportedly asked aides in the Situation Room in February 2020, before the outbreak exploded in the U.S. “What about Guantánamo?”

Aides were shocked and moved quickly to squash the idea to quarantine infected Americans at the same location as the Naval base where terrorism suspects are held.

“We import goods,” Trump said. “We are not going to import a virus.”

Trump also bitterly complained about testing in those early weeks, saying that positive cases would hurt his chances for re-election.

“Testing is killing me!” Trump reportedly complained the then-Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on March 18. “I’m going to lose the election because of testing! What idiot had the federal government do testing?”

Azar reminded the former president that his senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner had taken charge of testing just days earlier.

“Uh, do you mean Jared?” Azar responded.

  1. Again, we should not mistake colorful clownish malicious intent for ineptitude.
    Playing dumb, while easy for him, is also a tactic. A life style that has many advantages.
    When mod bosses go to court , they like to be physically mute and in wheelchairs.
    Playing crazy, to a degree, is a standard position when approaching “complexity”.

    • My ancestor was captured by the British, and was the lone survivor from one of their “prison camps”,.. they fed them all rotten food until they died. I think the place was on long Island..if I remember. The loyalists were serving up their neighbors.
      There are many aspects of 2020 that are all too reminiscent of the time of the revolution. The media presence of the crown is at an all time high since then. Can we trust the crown ?
      Depends on what,… the long game ? Most definitively not. It takes way longer than a couple hundred years for the “firm” to give up on anything. It is so blatant.

  5. Everything Trump has told his crazy ReTrumplican base about COVID-19 is a lie. The Times of Israel informed us back in April of 2020 that the “US intelligence community became aware of the emerging disease in Wuhan in the second week of that month [November, 2019] and drew up a classified document.” The article went on to sat that “US intelligence informed the Trump administration, ‘which did not deem it of interest.'” Trumpsters, you have been conned again. When will you ever learn?
