Guardian: A rightwing protest in Portland on Sunday has culminated in a gunfight, when antifascist demonstrators returned fire at a man who shot at them with a handgun in a downtown street.

The firefight took place in the heart of downtown Portland, soon after 6pm. As antifascists followed a man at a distance who they were trying to eject from the area, he took cover behind a solar-powered trashcan, produced a handgun and opened fire. He fired at least two shots before an antifascist returned fire with their own handgun. At least seven shots were fired.



Portland police bureau confirmed that a man had been arrested over the shooting but did not have any information on any injuries.

The incident came after a day of protest descended into running clashes involving hundreds of protesters and counter-protesters.

Earlier that afternoon, in the city’s suburban east, Proud Boys discharged rounds from airsoft guns, while antifascists threw firework munitions, and both sides exchanged clouds of choking Mace and countless blows in a chaotic running street battle that lasted the better part of an hour.

  1. My guess is that ReTrumplicans have given up on democracy in the USA. They realize that changing demographics and mail-in voting will make it extremely difficult for white Christian males to win a national election ever again. The Rapture-me-outta-here crowd never had much use for democracy to begin with as they’re solidly behind turning the USA into some kind of Zio-fascist theocracy. One of their crazy pastors, John Hagee, claims that the USA has nothing to fear from WWIII, that a nuclear holocaust will be a good thing. It will not lead to the end of the world, but rather to “God’s renewal of the Garden of Eden.”

    • That’s why so-called Christian Zionism is a suicidal death cult, David. Death is indeed their deepest desire. Problem is, they have a collective hard-on for Armageddon and the crazy Dominionists in our military have the nukes to pull that off. Gordon has written extensively about this.

      There are a lot of Black Christian males.
      In fact I would venture to guess that if a real count would be put on the number of professors of various religions in the U.S., Christians would easily outnumber all the others combined.
      The mind manipulators who conjure a false reality, in the guise of “news” divide the people who have the testimony of Christ and fixate their attention on shadows of virtual un-“reality” so that their spiritual power is diffused by artificial hostilities.
      A “unified” church is the biggest fear of the psychic demons of propaganda.
