Garland’s “Enviable” Position as Attorney General; The Decision to Prosecute Bannon is an Easy One

…from Glenn Kirschner, with Justice Matters

[ Editor’s Note: We all understand that we will not be getting any weekly updates from the Department of Justice on the Insurrection investigation. Historically, it prefers to have those targeted as blind as possible regarding how much they know.

But with the Bannon indictment, it is hard for the public to grasp why it is taking so long, as the legal pundits are pretty much united on its being a no brainer for the grand jury, and the news of his being indicted would send a deterrent message out where it needs to go.

Every week of no action brings us closer and closer to November 3rd, 2022, when the Congressional Jan 6 committee could get the bullet behind the ear treatment. That is the obvious goal of all those involved in the insurrection too, to shut it down.

And for those already prosecuted, the Trumpers will double down on getting Trump back into office so he can pardon everybody in his first week. As Glenn mentioned last week, the country needs to see the government present a credible deterrence for trying to throw over another election.

The delay in Bannon not being indicted has turned into an example for others to follow, putting the Committee further behind on what he needs to learn. Every week that goes by, the Insurrectionists are getting more emboldened in their counter attack plans. Thus ends my cheery missive for today… Jim W. Dean ]

In a recent CNN Opinion piece, political commentator Chris Cillizza said that Attorney General Merrick Garland is in an “unenviable” position, and that Garland is concerned about staying “above any allegations of settling political scores for the administration.”

This video takes the position that AG Garland is in an entirely enviable position and that by making decision about whether or not to prosecute factoring in a need to avoid (unfounded) criticism of “settling political scores” is, in fact, a decision driven by politics rather than by the evidence.

  1. Unenviable is the wording of an apologist. This has been the issue with dems for a long time.
They are using the foam rubber gavel. Nerf justice, because they are terrified of what the pubes will do, in retaliation.
Each republican admin has increasingly become lawless. The executive branch needs to be trimmed.

  2. Thanks as always, Jim, for linking Glenn’s latest missive. He’s 100% right that Merrick Garland has no choice but to comply in a timely fashion with locking Bannon up as soon as possible. That he could have been jailed immediately by the House of Representatives would have looked like political retribution. The Cult of Trump in Congress would have had a field day with that.

Keeping his cards close to his chest about what will be submitted to a grand jury, though, is prudent and totally consistent with the rule of law. He’s indicated that this will happen within days. There’s no way Bannon can wiggle out of it. He’d better skate off to Israel now, as all Zionist traitors including Trump will do eventually.
