…from the Washington Post

[ Editor’s Note: Finally we are seeing those who often tend to keep their heads down out of politics speak out, despite their being retired after long careers of having learned to be fearful at weighing in on anything that ‘could’ be interpreted as political.

I always felt that was a bit contrived, and used as ‘cover’ to not get any bad marks against their getting a nice juicy post active duty career slot. And no, I am not trashing them.

The habit of generals and higher ups trying to grab all the dough they can after they retire through an ‘additional’ retirement program has been with us for some time now.

Where once their goal was half a million a year in additional income from part time work, some shoot for several million a year extra. And those paying don’t lay out that kind of money for nothing. Think Michael Flynn.

So it is a breath of fresh air to have these top security officials saddle up their horses and ride into the fight over the many threats we are facing with our democracy under attack by endless politically camouflaged ruses to install a permanent Republican hegemony.

“…a Republic if you can keep it.”

And the Trumpers have the brass to claim that they are doing this for the good of the country, when Trump has an unmatched record of never doing anything without first considering how was it going to benefit him.

Hopefully more will join hands with the 100 batch. I have not seen the list, but am sure it includes many of those who had signed letters while Trump was still in office and using every tool under the commander in chief’s tool box to win re-election.

Yes, as many are saying, the courts will decided who the winner and loser will eventually be, but rest assured they will not be making their decision in a vacuum.

The courts, at the end of the day, do not want to come out of this with the reputation that barely educated Donald Trump was able to scam his way around them legally to lead an insurrection and then get away with it. If that happened, the judicial system would wear the shame forever.

But the good news is over 60 courts ruled against the Trump and Rudy Steal, and they are still on the playing field, although I have seen not progress about Trump’s legal perps losing their law licenses yet.

If anyone has seen any movement on that issue, let us know in the comments. Thus ends my cheery missive for today Jim W. Dean ]

Hurrah, hurrah, the Shaman clown got 51 months

First published November 10, 2021

By now, it is well documented that in 2020 a sitting president and his allies tried to overturn the results of an election, triggering the worst political violence this country has seen in living memory.

It is also clear that this attempt to undermine our democracy did not end with the transition to a new president, but continues with active efforts to make sure the next sabotage succeeds where the last one failed.

What is less widely understood — and what keeps us up at night — is how great a threat these activities pose to our national security.

“This looming crisis is why we, along with nearly 100 other former national security and military officials, issued a statement urging Congress to prioritize protecting election integrity.

We both served at the highest levels of our country’s intelligence community, under Republican and Democratic presidents alike, and we know that our foreign adversaries and other bad actors are licking their chops as they watch efforts to destabilize our elections.”

At the heart of the attack is a homegrown disinformation campaign meant to sow doubt in the U.S. voting system. Unfortunately, it is working — poll after poll shows declining trust in our elections and declining belief in the concept of democracy, particularly among Republicans. And these effects will not be contained to our borders.

…Unfortunately, adversaries are finding increasingly fertile ground for their efforts. A society struggling to separate fact from fiction is the perfect environment for these actors to further erode electoral trust and kick democracy into a death spiral.

  1. Our “democracy” allows us to vote for the Left-wing of the Israel lobby or the Right-wing of the Israel lobby.

Surely someone at this website understands that.

    • The next “president’ won’t be decided by an election or the rule of law, Harry. Like Sinclair Lewis said, “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.” They’ll most likely will be wearing MAGA caps and carrying assault rifles as well.
