Blinken: ‘No meaningful pullback’ from Russian troops at Ukrainian border
[ Editor’s Note: Now the US word game war enters the Ukraine showdown. The public is being played, as usual, with the diplomatic word games. Blinken begins with the slick qualifier of ‘meaningful’, but you notice he does not provide any context for that.
The US military, not being idiots risking to piss the Whitehouse off followed right in line, with their own qualifier of “we did not see any withdrawal of Russian troops”. That could be an accurate statement because they have not looked.
And Biden, wanting of course to get some commander in chief publicity used the term “threatening position”. Amazingly left out was any mention of the “threatening position of NATO and US forces on the Russian border, and the Donbas ethnic Russian civilians being shelled for years now, with weapons and ammo courtesy of the United States.
Biden seems fine with the US having done that, but does not like it when Trump tries to coup him out of power. Imagine that. The Biden team may think we are too stupid to notice this, but they could be wrong.
The diplomatic ball is in the hands of Germany and France to live up to their Minsk agreement commitments to pass legislation to give political autonomy to the Donbas ethnic Russian region.
Zelensky does not want to risk any blowback on this happening. If he wanted, he could negotiate a deal in a week with the Russians. But the US might cut off the US red ink borrowed money and military supplies we are sending.
Does the US want to keep another ‘forever war’ going in Ukraine, based on its past record of loving forever wars? God knows the military loves them.
Why would Russia want to make a ‘meaningful pull back’ without some meaningful progress on the Donbas issue? Duhhh! The Donbas people are not seeking new territory, while Kiev is. This is not rocket science.
The Minsk agreement is back on the table. Why would Putin want to fold his tent and leave now? If the Normandy Four entities ‘pretend’ to negotiate, like the last time, then Putin can ‘pretend’ to withdraw.
The West shafted the Donbas people with the fake Minsk agreement. This military exercise by Putin is free, as the Russian maneuvers have to be done every year, because NATO insists on its right to expand and threaten Russia by reaching his border.
Think of what the US or German response would be if Russia wanted to be on their borders, maybe organizing a coup in part of Alaska with the natives there… Jim W. Dean ]

While the Russian Defense Ministry says some troops were pulling back after completing military training, Biden said on Tuesday that Russian troops remain in a “threatening position.” NATO leaders have similarly said that their organization has seen no sign of deescalation.
“At the moment, we have not seen any withdrawal of Russian forces,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, according to the Associated Press. “If they really start to withdraw forces, that’s something we will welcome but that remains to be seen.”
In a statement on Wednesday, Blinken said that if the Russian parliament decides to ask President Vladimir Putin to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine — where Russian-backed separatists have waged a yearslong battle against the Ukrainian government — as independent, it would “undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and cause uncertainty in Russia’s diplomatic efforts.
Blinken said the recognition would “constitute a gross violation of international law, call into further question Russia’s stated commitment to continue to engage in diplomacy to achieve a peaceful resolution of this crisis and necessitate a swift and firm response from the United States in full coordination with our Allies and partners.”
