Pope Francis has voiced concern over the situation in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra following attempts by the Ukrainian authorities to expel monks from the country’s iconic Orthodox Christian site.

Speaking at the end of a general audience on Wednesday, the pontiff said he was “thinking about the Orthodox monks in the Kiev Lavra.”

“I ask warring parties to respect religious places,” he added, asserting that the clergy of any denomination “are the support of the people of God.”

His comments came after Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, last week issued an appeal to Christian leaders of various denominations and international organizations over what he described as “a sharp increase in state pressure on Orthodox Christians in Ukraine.”

Referring to Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Kirill called for “every possible effort to prevent the forced closure of the monastery, which would lead to a violation of the rights of millions of faithful.

On March 10, Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture claimed, without providing any evidence, that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate had violated a 2013 agreement, under which the state allowed them to administer the religious site. Clerics were subsequently ordered to vacate the monastery by March 29.

  1. His stage name is “Francis” but he is not a valid pope. The last real visible pope was Pius XII (1939-1958), his legitimate successor, Cardinal Giuseppe Siri/Pope Gregory XVII was threatened into invalid abdication on Oct 26, 1958, and a counterfeit church was established beginning with the obese Freemason John XXIII and continues to this day, controlled by the international Judeo-Masonic powers. The real Catholic Church is “underground,” holding the traditional faith, worship, sacramental rites and practice as handed down through the centuries. See the White Smoke 1958 site.

The famous stigmatist priest and miracle worker Padre Pio “around 1960,” as Fr Gabriel Amorth, later chief exorcist of Rome, recalls, told him, “You know, Gabriele? It is Satan who has been introduced into the bosom of the Church and within a very short time will come to rule a false Church.” (Interview with Fr Amorth by José María Zavala, in The Best Kept Secret of Fatima)

In 1963, at the beginning of Paul VI’s reign, Padre Pio embraced Father Luigi Villa, saying to him: “Be brave, now…for the Church has already been invaded by Freemasonry!” and then stated: “Freemasonry has already entered into the slippers of the Pope!”

“Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the true Church of Jesus Christ.” (St Athanasius)
