Pentagon chief James Mattis was able to dissuade U.S. President Donald Trump from a rash act. The American leader was planning to launch missile strikes on Russian and Iranian targets in Syria in April 2019. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources.
Mattis offered Trump three options to choose from, but according to WSJ, the president was determined and even wanted to attack Russian military installations. The head of the Pentagon was able to dissuade him. As a result, on the morning of April 14, the United States, together with France and Britain, launched targeted attacks on Syrian government facilities.
