‘We’re not going to control the pandemic’: White House chief’s comments undermine Trump’s closing message

[ Editor’s Note: I had been wondering about the total silence from the White House on the surging pandemic that threatens a crisis situation the day before the elections, if ICUs are over flowing.
One would think that Trump would be having the WH staff make some kind of token effort, which is his specialty. Hearing Trump pronounce his ‘we are rounding the corner” mantra was expected, as his has last theoretical fig leaf cover that ‘his’ vaccine will be ready just after the election. I remember the idiot even saying it would be free, during his steroids buzz period during his virus bout.
If it isn’t he will just blame the companies, saying that they held it up to hurt him. His record of blaming others for all mistakes in his administration is 100%. Campaign staffers are already speaking off record to reporters that they know they will be blamed for a loss.
Even now we have three of Pence’s staff down with Covid, and he will not isolate. Local reporters are nailing him with questions on why he is risking spreading it to their communities by not wearing a mask. The answer of course is that Pence dose not care.
I can’t think of anything they could do that would hurt them more in the last days before the election than the Trump regime basically running on a ‘let the virus roll over us and do what it may, as that will not be as bad at closing down’.
What they are forgetting is not doing anything is one thing, but actually spreading the virus is another. We have averaged 80,000 new cases over the past two days, with testing expansion having been held up by Trump, and 900 deaths, and on schedule to be over 1000 a day soon.
When this is done, never so many will have owed so little to so few as the Trump gang of sociopaths. The bar has been lowered on presidential conduct. Hope that the Israelis have not rigged the counting… Jim W. Dean ]

The Trump administration signaled on Sunday that it had given up on controlling the spread of the coronavirus, even as Covid-19 makes its second run through the White House, three in four Americans are concerned that they or someone they know will contract the disease, and millions of American families are suffering as negotiators struggle to clinch an elusive relief deal.
“We’re not going to control the pandemic,” White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.” “We are gonna control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation.”
Yet President Donald Trump — who continues to insist that the country is “rounding the corner” despite a new surge in cases — is campaigning in New Hampshire and Maine on Sunday. Vice President Mike Pence will also continue to campaign instead of quarantine, after a top staffer tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Meadows argued that the administration wouldn’t get the pandemic under control “because it is a contagious virus, just like the flu.”
“It’s ripping through this country,” national security adviser Robert O’Brien, who recovered from the virus earlier this summer, told reporters outside the White House on Sunday.
