[ Editor’s Note: It took two weeks but is finally over, and it’s important, as the winning Democrats can finally take their majority party positions on the committees, something critically needed to get control of a Congress that is drifting sideways in terms of getting Biden’s first 100 days agenda work jump started.
The Republicans were caught in a pickle, facing a threat spectacle of the Senate impeachment trial that might enshrine their being viewed as the Banana Republicans. But they also wanted to slow down the momentum progress of the Biden regime to establish its black and white contrast of having a normal government serving the people versus the cult that not all, but way too many Republicans have become.
Do not forget the shocking Republican poll where 45% of Republicans said they had no problem with the Capitol attack, apparently on the grounds that if that is what it took to keep Trump in, that they were fully onboard the coup. The word ‘divided’ does not do justice to describing this situation.
The now minority Republican leadership is walking a tightrope with their main goal being not to fall off into the abyss. They fear not having Trumper support to maintain their positions, but also of being stained by that association, including scandals that have yet been revealed.
The more that comes out like this Axios story that no other news outlet seemed to be aware of, showing yet another Trump attempt to misuse the military to seize power, the Republicans sink deeper and deeper into the Banana Land Quicksand, a term I just invented and like it very much… Jim W. Dean ]

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Wednesday that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have reached a deal on a power-sharing agreement for governing the upper chamber.
The final agreement on the so-called organizing resolution for the evenly-split Senate allows Democrats to take control of committees and comes after weeks of negotiation between the two leaders.
“I am happy to report this morning that the leadership of both parties have finalized the organizing resolution for the Senate,” Schumer said. “We will pass the resolution through the Senate today, which means that committees can promptly set up and get to work.”
…The new agreement is expected to resemble the 2001 power sharing agreement between former Senate leaders Trent Lott and Tom Daschle. That pact also took weeks to negotiate. But unlike this year, the 2001 accord was reached before then-newly elected President George W. Bush officially took office and there was no change in party control of the chamber.
Senate Democrats did not win the majority until the Jan. 5 Georgia runoff races, when Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock won both Senate seats. Vice President Kamala Harris is the tie-breaking vote for Democrats.
