No defense: Gaetz finds few Republican allies amid investigation

…from Politico

[ Editor’s Note: It appears rich Congressman playboy Gaetz is being viewed as a dead man walking by a growing number of Republicans who feel the ship of state’s political fortunes do not need any more scandal.

The country does not need the Orange haired philanderer replaced by the brown haired one.

This incident is beginning to look like a potential Rico case, where Gaetz might have been just one leg of the octopus. Washington is famous for its political mistresses, and unfortunately a history of underage incidents, few of which become public.

All are at risk. One example was the Massachusetts teen intern that Kennedy seduced after meeting her in the White House swimming pool. Yes, she wrote a book.

Also reported today on Politico was Gaetz’s communications director, Luke Ball, deciding to become unemployed and move on so his name is not branded onto the growing scandal.

This could be a goldmine for prosecutors, as Florida is a Disneyland of young girls for exploitation, and those individuals or organizations looking to control political figures often bait prospects via the forbidden fruit.

We must all remember to not prejudge the man to be guilty, until 15 others come forward to start a ‘Me, too’ Matt Gaetz movement. Why do I feel this is only the beginning of this story? … Jim W. Dean ]

Why teen girls for a Congressman who has it all? … and engaged no less?

First published … April 02, 2021

Gaetz is the subject of a U.S. Justice Department probe into whether he trafficked a 17-year-old girl. The New York Times reported Thursday that the federal probe is focused on payments made to women who were given money for sex.

Gaetz’s office told the newspaper he “refutes all the disgusting allegations completely.”

…But as Gaetz mounts a vigorous public defense, he is finding few allies among Florida Republicans, a testament to his reputation that even before he became a near-constant presence on Fox News he relished slinging verbal barbs and getting into rhetorical fistfights with opponents, regardless of party affiliation.

…”This is an ongoing Department of Justice investigation. We have no comment,” DeSantis spokesperson Meredith Beatric said. DeSantis has had two press conferences outside of Tallahassee since the Gaetz news broke, but was not asked about it at either.

Florida’s U.S. Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, both Republicans, have remained silent as well. The decision by Scott to sidestep the controversy is not surprising given that the former governor and Gaetz — along with his father and former Florida Senate President Don Gaetz — have had an adversarial relationship at times. Scott was instrumental in denying the presidency of the University of West Florida to Don Gaetz after he left office.
