Editor’s Note: Jens Stoltenberg seems to be channeling a second career as a stand up comic with his posing that Russia should have nothing to fear from NATO moving right up to its border, despite NATO having broken the initial arrangement not to solicit former European Soviet states into its Western block.
Of course, we in the West did just that. Part of it had to do with the Russians inheriting a bankrupt country at the alleged end of the Cold War, part of that due to its economy being crashed via its top-heavy arms industry at the expense of a domestic one.
The US then teamed up with the always drunk Mr. Yeltsin and began asset-stripping the country, which VT’s Leo Wanta had a front-row seat to, and saw it all happen because he participated in it, orchestrating the crashing of its currency.
Left out of this Russia versus NATO silliness in Western media is any mention of who lost 20 million in WWII. Hint, it was not Israel, and it was not the Jewish community.
No country in the US has ever put themselves in those shoes for a peek behind the curtain to imagine how different life would have been with such losses. The 350,000 American deaths pales insignificance.
I will close with what I have editorialized on for years, that Russia has had its hands full in creating a credible defense against the West. It did not want to shift civilian infrastructure spending into war production, especially in state-of-the-art areas to have a technical superiority where it knew it would never have numerical superiority in weapons systems.
The die was cast when during the Bush the Younger realm we started moving our first strike weapons closer to the Russian border under the guise of ‘missile defense’. No president afterward has corrected that threatening posture against Russia.
So here we are, years later, with the mistake plain to see to all who want to, where the NATO ‘defense’ mission has morphed into an ‘offense’ one, and better yet for the EU, the US taxpayer stuck with the bill and also Russia’s first and main retaliation target.
Meanwhile, our NATO partners just smile over their guile. That is my poetic line for the day. Phil has the rest of the story for you below… Jim W. Dean

Stalingrad – I interviewed a retired Soviet General 20 years ago in Atlanta, whose officer candidate school group of 300 was thrown into the battle for Stalingrad and fought for three days without any supplies being provided. They were told if they wanted food and ammo to kill the Germans and take theirs. Only a dozen were left when they were pulled out.
NATO’s Jens Stoltenberg Thinks We’re All Idiots

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is either a nincompoop, or he thinks the rest of us are. A recent statement about Russia’s concerns over the march eastward of the militarist organization proves one, the other, or both.
“The whole idea that you know, it’s a provocation to Russia that small neighbors join NATO is absolutely wrong. That’s the provocation — that anyone is saying that.” – Stoltenberg
Now let’s see. Isn’t he NATO, otherwise known as the North Atlantic Alliance, an intergovernmental military alliance between 28 European countries and 2 North American countries? Hmm.
Given Russia’s long history with “friendly” neighbors to the west, I wonder why anyone studying detente, political science, geo-policy, or history would ever imagine the Russians being unsettled!
From their perspective, NATO right next door is a bit like looking out their windows to find the Third Reich moving into every other house in the neighborhood. I can only imagine how my countrymen would react if all of Latin America created a military bloc supported by Russia, China, Iran, and other traditional pals of the United States.
Perhaps then, this new intergovernmental could elect a boss, who could likewise question the fears of people North of the Rio Grande!
Stoltenberg, give us a break. Your arguments are just plain stupid. To claim NATO as some kind of democratic human rights choice for people on the frontiers of Russia is ludicrous. NATO does not provide a choice, NATO seeds fear and loathing, and then wedges a multinational police force into every country that joins.
The people’s perception of what NATO actually is is skewed to the extreme. There is no existential threat, beyond the threat the America-led militarists create on its periphery.
The fact that the NATO boss’ statements are echoed via websites like Breaking Defense, tells anyone with a halfwit sense what his mission is. Look at this paragraph from the story:
“For Georgia and Ukraine, the situation is particularly dire, with both in open conflict with Russia over territory. From a pure geopolitics standpoint, it seems unlikely either nation will join the alliance anytime while those conflicts are ongoing. After all, NATO was formed so that if Russia invaded one member, all members would become involved in the conflict.”
The United States and allies seeded revolution in both these countries in an ongoing effort to press at Russia’s borders. Meanwhile internally, the privateers of western capitalism attempted to steal the legacy of the Russian people through the privatization of all her assets.
Putin came in, put a stop to it, and the new Cold War was on. It’s not rocket science. There’s no need for a magnifying glass. You do not have to be Sherlock Holmes to understand what has been going on.
But, if you are a mindless zombie who watches CNN or BBC all day and night, the minions of western militarism have you. And Stoltenberg is the altar boy of war-making.
Look! American lawmakers are so hot to prop up the arms industry they are mulling over giving loans paid for by American taxpayers, to NATO member countries to buy American-made killing tools.
No, I am not kidding. US Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) came up with this statement to introduce his bill:
“At a time when Vladimir Putin continues his malign efforts throughout Europe and the world, we must support our NATO allies to defend themselves from this resurgent Russia. This bill will make American industry more competitive abroad while simultaneously aligning our allies’ defense systems with those of the United States and the rest of NATO.”
As I said, “NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is either a nincompoop, or he thinks the rest of us are.” Is it any wonder the Russians are worried? You tell me, in good faith.

I’ve had the misfortune of having met both this Stoltenberg and his father. His father, who became foreign minister under PM Gro Harlem Brundtland and other Labour pPMs, was a sicho and a liar. When member of the Lalour PArty affiliated Socialist Student Association, he reported to the US Embasssy in Oslo which of his fellow students ought not get scholarships nor visas to visit the US.
Stoltenberg jr. became leader of the Labour Youth League having flagged opposistion to NATO, to nuclear weapons and so forth. Now, two years ago, he clamed NATO was the reason nuclear weapons “had never been used in Europe, knowing full well that US bombs and artillery shells containing radioacteve “depleted uranium” had bean spread over large swaths of Serbia.
So “Jens Stoltenberg is either a nincompoop, or ..” — an ignorant liar and ninnihammer.

Correction: there was no obstetrician present at his birth. Osly a plumber who hauled him out through the hintemost hole.

Thanks for the article, Jim! These obvious facts are understood by everyone, including the NATO Secretary General himself. But without this horror story about vicious, predatory Russians, the very modern concept of NATO is lost. It’s clear. If the athletes stop training and start eating kebabs together, then there will be little chances for one of them to become a champion. So this music will play forever, bringing in huge sums of money to gunsmiths. The trade mark “Russia” is a very profitable project for the hawks. And for the global capital, living at the expense of military parasitism on the planet, my country is a tasty piece of the pie. But they can’t take us with their bare hands. They can only rattle their weapons and wait for the right moment.

Stoltenberg is an idiot! He tries to make Russia look like a “nobody” and with help from US is playing the part of the the guy that will look after EU and Russia and not let US fight Russia. Its like when a fight is about to break out and a guy intervenes and separates the two sides and says “common guys” lets have a beer together. Except that he’s only trying to remove Russia’s guard for US to throw a punch when the time comes. The Vodka-drinking and Borscht-eating Russians don’t need any of this – if it starts, two people will be on the floor and Russia will be standing.
