Daily Beast: A state lawmaker who opposed Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s extended lockdown has been diagnosed with COVID-19, leaving numerous legislators potentially exposed to the virus.

Sen. Tom Barrett, a Republican, learned he is infected after undergoing mandatory screening because he is in the Army National Guard.



“Thankfully I do not have any significant symptoms at this time, and I will be self-isolating according to medical guidelines,” said Barrett, who attended committee meetings, in a mask, last week. “I have done my best to make contact with those I have been around in the past couple weeks so that they may also seek medical advice.”

Whitmer’s statewide lockdown is credited with bringing the spread of the virus under control this spring, though numbers have started to spike again since reopening.

  2. It’s ironic that just north of Michigan, in Canada, people are doing what the government and common sense says they should do, wearing masks and social-distancing, and the Canucks are beating this thing…

    Also, they have a strong social safety net so that people aren’t afraid to go to a doctor when they’re sick for fear of bankrupting themselves. Say all you want about socialism, but it seems that all around the world, the more collectivist countries have beat COVID-19 while those where medical care is monetized and weaponized haven’t. One has to think that this is all part of some nefarious plan.

  3. There is no end to the snowflakes who refuse to wear masks coming down with covid.

    Previously it was Gomer and the Pile, and the Israeli Health Minister himself.

    What a bunch of trumptards, humanity has been donning masks for thousands of years during outbreaks,.. but these mensa’s just can’t quite get it.

    Pick your leaders people, and try to do a better job.

    • We kinda did forget some people, the people who voted for Trump, we left them behind.

      It was a mistake, and we are paying for it. Inclusiveness begins with holistic understanding.

      And exposure is a part of education.
