ROME, 15 January. /TASS/. The coronavirus vaccine prevents severe COVID-19 disease by 98% at the third dose. This is evidenced by data published on Saturday by the Italian Higher Institute of Health.
“Effectiveness in preventing… a severe course of the disease in individuals vaccinated with an additional dose is 98%,” the report says.
In Italy, almost 200 thousand cases of infection per day are detected for several days. A day earlier, the head of the institution, Silvio Bruzaferro, said that in the coming days, the omicron strain of coronavirus would become dominant in the republic, while he described the overall epidemic situation in the country as acute.
To date, almost 87% of persons over 12 years of age have completed the full vaccination cycle (2 doses) in the country. More than 119 million injections of the coronavirus vaccine have been made.
