Salon: The so-called “freedom convoy” has captured worldwide attention, especially from the Russian state controlled media, as a minority of truckers and their supporters have asserted their right to assemble and oppose COVID-19 protocols imposed by the federal, provincial and territorial governments. No problem there.
The problem lies in what’s not being said or acknowledged.
The one-word rallying cry — freedom — is the activist mantra. Who could be against freedom? But let’s take stock of the freedom that some have exercised during the ongoing rally:
- Descending upon a soup kitchen, intimidating staff and demanding to be fed — all without masks.
- Desecrating war memorials that pay tribute to those who fought for the very freedoms the convoy supporters enjoy.
- Defecating in public, including on the property of people whose home displays a Pride flag.
- Overrunning malls and shops that have forced many to shut down, thereby denying the shop owners’ and employees freedom to earn a living.
- Shutting down schools in the wake of rallies, denying parents the freedom to go to work and children their freedom to go to school.
- Uttering racist and threatening comments, making many people in Ottawa’s downtown feel generally unsafe.
In the tantrum for so-called freedom, the majority of participants have not denounced or condemned these reprehensible, well-documented behaviours which, notably, have gone mostly without consequence.
It’s worth noting that a freedom they’re demanding — the right to refuse COVID-19 vaccinations without curtailing their livelihood — poses immense risk not only to themselves but to everyone else, while also draining the health-care system and denying treatments for others.
Whose freedom?
But what might “freedom” mean to other Canadians?
Ask Indigenous people about freedom. Ask them about centuries of abuse and genocide at the hands of colonists. Ask them about the legacies of residential school horrors and abuse. Ask them about the devastation of the ‘60s scoop and continued government control over child welfare.
Ask Indigenous people about the ongoing subtle and overt racism they face from Canadians every day. Where is their freedom from bigotry and prejudice that continues to flourish? Read more…

The dumbest part is when people look for information, and reject it when they finally get it. Just like cows. They know they are being fed upon, and still they cling to loyalty, and attacking the messenger. It takes a fair bit of empathy to even care after a while.
Smells a lot like the Jan 6 “freedom rally” which attempted to usurp the popular vote. Truckers are not known to be hard workers and are generally overweight chronic complainers of trivial minutia. None of these bloated free loaders would be caught dead at any protest of substance, particularly if the offended party did not look like them. Meanwhile in Minneapolis, thousands on foot marching for yet another police shooting of an innocent person at the wrong end of a no knock warrant. These truckers sit in their warm trucks, and honk the horn. They are not protesting the head of state or queen of their country, and truckers are one of the leading spreaders of covid from city to city. I said this from the beginning. If doctors need to be vaxxed, so do delivery drivers. Full stop. They are weapons on wheels pollinating like butterflies.

As a proud Albertan and Canadian, I have seen these peaceful fellow Canadians in action. The media has lied, and these so-called instances were faked by outside agitators intent to cause trouble to the protesters. The Protesters are average people in the trucking, farming industry and other walks of life. This is about choice to receive or deny experimental gene altering therapies. Not vaccines, as they have no long term studies to date. No violence was taken by the real protesters, which have majority support. Our Prime Minister is in hiding at an undisclosed location and is perceived as a failed leader without the ability to have dialog with the public he supposedly represents. A non confidence vote will be heard this week and likely pass against a man who no longer speaks for Canada. Also, the security detail and staff have quit and is now advising the Protesters about possible false flag events. God bless our truckers.

This is the real dumb part. Trudeau does not call the shots. These lazy horn honkers are pointing their ire at the wrong target, he is the messenger. But, try explaining that to any Canadien even though it is so overwhelmingly obvious a child would know.
Meanwhile, the Trumpers love this, and any self respecting activist thinks it is a joke. So far, their white privilege is working very well for them.
