Map of Ukraine’s armored industry: up to 80% of large enterprises are blocked or controlled by Russia

mashnews.ruUp to 80% of the large Ukrainian enterprises engaged in the production and repair of various armored vehicles have been blockaded by Russian forces or taken under control. MASHNEWS analysts have prepared a brief overview of what these plants produce and repair, and where they are located. Due to the secrecy and changing environment, the overview does not claim to be absolutely accurate, but it does allow us to identify certain trends.

Before the start of a special military operation in Ukraine there were about 20 large enterprises for the production, modernization, and repair of automotive and armored vehicles. They were located all over the country. Especially large clusters were created back in the Soviet years in Kiev and Kharkov. The latter is famous for the legendary Russian Soviet school of tank building.

At present the Kiev and Kharkov clusters, due to the partial encirclement of these cities, are actually unable to accept damaged vehicles or to send new or repaired products to the front.

Most of Ukraine’s tank and repair plants were inherited from the Soviet Union, but after 2014 a number of new enterprises emerged in the country, mostly related to the production and repair of protected armored vehicles (MRAP).
