CNN: Just as cases are starting to plateau in some big cities and along the coasts, the coronavirus is catching fire in rural states across the American heartland, where there has been a small but significant spike this week in cases. Playing out amid these outbreaks is a clash between a frontier culture that values individual freedom and personal responsibility, and the onerous but necessary restrictions to contain a novel biological threat.
The bump in coronavirus cases is most pronounced in states without a stay at home orders. Oklahoma saw a 53% increase in cases over the past week, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Over the same time, cases jumped 60% in Arkansas, 74% in Nebraska, and 82% in Iowa. South Dakota saw a whopping 205% spike.
The remaining states, North Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming each saw an increase in cases, but more in line with other places that have stay-at-home orders. And all of those numbers may very well undercount the total cases, given a persistent lack of testing across the US.
This trend undermines the notion perpetuated by President Donald Trump and some of his Republican allies that the restrictive social-distancing measures aren’t necessary for rural America — and that these states even offer a model for reopening the country.
“If you look at Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota — that’s a lot different than New York, it’s a lot different than New Jersey,” Trump said at Thursday’s coronavirus task force briefing, adding that 29 states are “in that ballgame” of being ready to be reopened first.
“We have large sections of the country right now that can start thinking about opening,” Trump added.

“individual freedom and personal responsibility”? Looks more like undisciplined` children having a tantrum, screaming, “You’re not my daddy, you can’t tell me what to do!”
Today, flush with $1200 the roads were stuffed and accidents everywhere. The police are relaxed and it’s like Nascar on the beltway. Walmarts are overflowing and us battery delivery guys are shaking our heads. Mandatory face wear, which is just stupid, pretend, nonsense. I always thought that I would work until I died; I just didn’t think that it would be so sudden. Hope to see y’all on the other side of the Pandemic. Keep your stick on the ice, eh!

yes
If you listen to the newscasters and talking heads, they normally say that the deceased died after testing positive for the virus. Usually no mention of the virus causing the death. I cannot think of any other situation where they mention a problem consistently when it is not the cause of death. Just my take…
I’ll admit, due to lack of testing, there may well be deaths falsely ascribed to CV19, however, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the pandemic is all too real, that a bioweapon made from a modified bat virus is out there in the wild, killing people and making many more ill for a while.
Ian, had a family member sick with the bug in January as you should have seen the bill however, we were lucky enough to have good insurance and access to the finest care as the virus leaves one weak for months on end after getting out of the hospital.
In january, my family member was tested for e everything under the sun as the staff was stumped and people came in daily with similar symp6as this is no joke.
Yes, it is no joke, everyone that’s had it knows that, I fervently hope this experirnce finally brings a proper universal free healthcare system to the US.
