Health Editor’s Note: Boy, do I wish we had someone of the caliber of New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, making the pandemic decisions here in the U.S. New Zealand is a country that suffered only 21 deaths due to COVID-19. Lock down and relentlessly finding and locating contacts of those who were infected kept deaths to an unbelievable low level. Really a very simple plan, but awesomely effective. Trump missed the boat on this one and now we are sinking…Carol
New Zealand edges back to normal after quashing coronavirus in 49 days
by Anna Fifield/the Washington Post
Wellington: Running the meeting was Jacinda Ardern, the liberal prime minister who has won international renown for her empathetic leadership during the global coronavirus pandemic. Next to her was Winston Peters, the wily politician almost twice her age who heads the populist party in the coalition government.
The cabinet faced a momentous decision.
New Zealand had been in almost complete lockdown for 46 days, a step the government mandated when the country had only 100 coronavirus cases but modeling showed it was on a trajectory similar to Italy’s.

Hi Carol. Yes NZ has 21 deaths and Australia with fives times the population has ninety nine deaths.
Both countries have low smoking numbers and both have very low air pollution . These ase the main reasons our deaths are so low. Also low uptake of 5G ?.

Hi Carol. I had a nice write-up on my use of ethyl alcohol (Ever Clear), that is made for human consumption and taxed, but it disappeared before I was done.
About 6 weeks of use while in public, wiping around my mouth and nose and breathing the vapors from a cloth or paper towel, I feel very good about it’s use. I can’t imagine a better anti-viral, going right to where the virus could take hold on a person, in sinus and lungs. Two half pints cost $20 and I have half left after 6 weeks use, so it doesn’t take much. While my wife’s allergies have gone off with spring pollen, I feel very clear.
True, but I think, luckier, NZ got the lesser of the strain, same as Australia.
