Daily Beast: On Capitol Police officer is currently in custody for unspecified felony charges and two Capitol Police officers have been suspended for their roles in Wednesday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) told reporters on Monday. “I know that there were two people that were suspended,” Ryan, who is chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee overseeing the investigation into the Capitol Police’s response to the riot, said in a press call.

The first lady had no comment…

“One was the selfie officer and another was an officer that put a MAGA hat on that started directing some people around.”



Ryan, however, did not provide further details about the suspensions or the names of the officers. The Democratic lawmaker also said that “approximately 10 to 15” Capitol Police officers are currently under investigation for their conduct during the insurrection but that there is no evidence the riot was part of a broader “inside job” or that members of the department purposefully cooperated or organized with the rioters.

  1. Well, putting a Maga hat on is one thing,.. but the first time I saw the “selfie” the context seemed to be de-escalation , which has been advocated and smart to deploy in this situation, and many officers were milling about , while the herd of idiots were being directed to the exit.
    This is what de-escalation looks like, and further explanation should be looked at to judge the “selfie officer”. Namely, more video or context.
    They were trying to get them all out without riling them up again. That is always going to look weird in a snap shot or two. Make sure we don’t let anyone villify de-escalation. The bigger question is why weren’t they arrested on the spot as they left. kettling has been demonstrated in every city to make thousands of arrests.
