[ Editor’s Note: This is playing out with Pence as expected. He has been low profile and quiet for a year, after Trump bashed him for not tipping the coup in his direction. If he had tipped it, Pence would be standing with Trump on the indictment short list.

Pence focused saving his political viability with a controlled declaration of war on Trump by announcing he would campaign to support ‘traditional Republican governors’, aka ‘anti-Trump’, and he is doing just that, with the Georgia primary a bellweather for how effective that strategy is.

Pence is betting that Trump’s legal problems from trying to steal the election from Biden will torpedo his 2024 candidacy. But, can Pence ever have enough gravitas to successfully run for president when viewed by many as the shameless yes-man standing behind Trump as a visual prop?

Trump wisely dumped the Covid response mess into Pence’s lap, knowing that if it bombed, he could just lay it off on Pence and fire him. But Trump did not get the second term to do that. Pence got Trump first, refusing to go down with him in American history as its most disgraced vice president.

All of these high stake office runners sticking with Trump are lashing themselves to the mast in terms of where Trump goes, which is going to be the most disgraced president in history podium.

The current Trump ship is the political reincarnation of the Lusitania. Those who are able to get to the lifeboats early will survive, and the rest maybe not. Trump is betting his mob can save them, because he is now their identity and their reason for living. The bizarre irony to other observers is that Trump views his followers as suckers.

It frankly was a slick political move to enlist a mob to pair up with the rich, a partnering move of the exploiters and the wannabe exploiters. Symmetry. A guy like Trump was able to do this with his showman skills, behind which there was no manner of humanity to be found. Even former Secretary of Defense Esper described him as completely motivated by self interest.

It is people like this, Sec. of State for Georgia, Raffensperger, who will be key in having taken Trump down

First published May 13, 2020

Former Vice President Mike Pence will hold a rally with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on the eve of his GOP primary — Pence’s most aggressive political move yet in defiance of his former patron and ticket-mate, former President Donald Trump.

The event comes ahead of the May 24 primary pitting Kemp against Trump-endorsed David Perdue, the former senator who is running for governor.

The former president has made Kemp one of his top Republican targets of the midterm election, attacking him mercilessly ever since Kemp refused to intervene and overturn Georgia’s vote count during the 2020 election, when the state went narrowly for President Joe Biden.

In a statement, Pence called Kemp “one of the most successful conservative governors in America.”

“Brian Kemp is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia,” Pence said. “I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia.”

Pence has shown increasing willingness to undercut Trump since Trump savaged the former vice president for certifying the 2020 election results instead of taking legally dubious steps to overturn them.

    • One morning, I awoke with the thought of Pence as POTUS rather than Biden. Then, like most Americans, I went back to sleep.
